Yellow Sticky Traps for identification and small pop. control, then it's Azamax spray on the medium surface to get the ones that chill there down, after that I use Azamax in the res and that kills off the buggers! I have read that Vaseline around the stem base helps the babies that are hatched, and start life around 1"-2" deep around the main stalk, from being able to take those first steps up the plant stem out of the medium. Love me some Azamax.

Cheers,
Crom

Top dress with diatomite. Fungus gnats will never be heard from again. I actually veg in 100% diatomite. The plants love it, and I've never had a pest in the root zone.

de doesnt effect the microbial life in the soil?? i keep thinking if it cuts the gnats and aphids up wouldnt it also do the same to the beneficial bacteria or is the beneficial bacteria too small to be effected?

im having a gnat problem, im planning on just mixing the de with water and some seaweed extract and top feeding it in the soil.

would it work well in a tea?

and what is bti?

They're both pretty much microbial in scale, therefore the DE's effect isn't the same, due to scale. Make sense? Diatomite, if I understand correctly, is a different form, though.

Bti = Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, or something like that.

top dressing with de doesn't work if the gnats can still enter the soil through the drainage holes in the pots. de's efficacy is also greatly reduced when wet.

Top cover with worm casting mixed with ground cinnamon did the trick for me

I'm battling those bastards right now too...had to harvest a few days early, but for everything still growing in my grow boxes I neemed the shit out of all the foliage, then drenched with azamax, then after the drench I neemed the top of the soil and added fresh sticky traps. I did the exact same thing 6 weeks ago and knocked 'em out, but a friend of mine gave me an infected plant that I THOUGHT was clean. This round of treatment should knock them back again, but I fear they will return...tis the season!

I got rid of my fungus gnats by letting the soil dry out a little longer. When the soil gets too dry for the larvae they die.

you ain't wrong mate, dryin out the soil does kill em, but it ain't always feasible to do that.

I think you might be right about that. Few days ago I had 2 dozen healthy leaves drop off my haze. Freaked me out. I think the poor girl was thirsty.
