How to rehydrate buds

Thanks putembk, I'm taking out the paper towels now and using Q-tips. I'll let ya'll know how it does when I see a change.

Careful putting fruit and vegs in those jars, personally I'd stick to the qtips. Humidipaks are a better long term solution cause they will maintain the chosen rh up and down for a long time. Yes, the ones marketed for weed are supposedly set at 62%, but they have normaler ones on 5rh increments, or even custom if you buy a million.

Lex, reason I suggested just jars to start is there might be enough moisture without wetting anything (which can also be sketchy and turn your shit to leather, or worse even cause micro-mold). You prob know from your own experience, but sometimes you get lucky and there's more moisture still in the stems than you realized and just jarring does the trick. Imo, this is why trimming on the branches makes drying/curing a little more user friendly (but more labor of course).

I'm not using the humidipaks because using the jars and Q-tips are easier and more economical. I don't want to use any fruit peels because I don't like the smell that latches on to the buds.

I was thinking about there being enough moisture in the stems, but, they feel really brittle, even in the middle of a nugget. I used the Q-tip method and I'm gonna check on them every 12 hours to help prevent mold and mildew.

Thanks El C for the tips (no pun intended).

If they are as dry as you say leave them alone for two days. They aren't going to get mold or mildew with a couple of drops of water in a q-tip. If you open and close every 12 hrs you are defeating the purpose. You want a little moisture, opening the jars will mitigate what little moisture is in there.

Gotcha, I won't touch it for 48 hours. After that I'll check on them and if the nugs on the bottom need more moisture I'll mix em up and leave it another 24 hours.

@Chobble-The cardboard box with strings across, I did the exact same thing last month and I kept it in my grow closet (above the light).

Yeah, I dry all of my indoor in the grow room. Those buds are from outdoors though and may have a few bugs running around that I dont want to introduce to my indoors :P.

That makes alot of sense. The reason I put my finished buds in the cardboard box is because I have limited space in the apartment I'm in right now, therefore, the little space I have for growing has to be used for just about everything (seedlings, veg, bloom, drying) so I use the box to block my 600w light from my drying buds. Which we all know light is bad for harvested bud :p back at ya :)

Once the herb has dried really fast, adding moisture isn't going to help with the taste much is it?
I hung dried my herb a while back and the RH was too low and it dried out in 3 days, I then put in jars for a few days and still really dry. It smokes really harsh too. I did the peel thing (wish I did q-tip but didnt know) and still smokes harsh with peel taste:mad:
next time using a humidifier when drying.

one possibility lex is when you harvested. depending on how you have your room, indoor humidity can change throughout the year, like in winter it will be different RH indoors than in summer. that could be why you are having a problem now and didn't before.

Your right, this is my first harvest up here in the north east. I lived in Florida most of my life and it's really humid down there, thats probably why it dried out so much quicker up north.

It actually doesn't have a bad taste, it's just really crumbly. Thats exactly why I don't use fruit peels, I don't want my nugs tasting like that. I love the natural smell and taste of bud, I don't even like smoking blunts because they mask the flavor and aroma of the bud itself.

I personally don't like to introduce any product besides water to reintroduce moisture. I open the jar/bag/container and flick my fingers in it after running them under the water faucet. Works quicker and better than anything else, it won't change odors and it's cheap and at home...

Just don't use tap if its got chloramines and jazz in it...

vaporizers deal with dry bud better than smoking, or you could always get a glass tube and blast it with tane (or both which is what i'd do)
very true. that herb that had dried too fast on me was harsh in the bong but in the vap. i could taste the favors and it was smooth.

Update, I went back to paper towels last night. My buds were way to crumbly for the lil drop of water in a q-tip. I took 1 paper towel and ripped it in 4 pieces, folded them and taped it to the lid. I seperated the buds in 4 jars half full. This morning they feel alot better. I burp every 12 hours and add a lil distilled water to the paper towels every time I open the jars.

I'm sure the q-tip would of worked but it was gonna take alot longer or my buds were just too dry. Thanks everyone.

back in the 70's we used to put a little orange peel in the bag over nite..

It seems I remember that weed that re-hydrated like this Drys out even worse the 2nd time..

I used a piece of a moist paper towel for each jar. I don't know if thats better than orange peel but I didn't want to change the flavor of my herb. I'm gonna make sure they don't dry out again because I'm keeping them in the jars. When they dried out the 1st time it was from the brown paper bags, mason jars are air tight and lock in moisture alot better than paper bags.

I'm confident this won't happen to me again I'm just getting used to growing in this semi-dry weather up north.

lex , next time ya eff up your buds,,,,,do this man,,, cheap, easy, fast, works every freakin time,,,,and ya can do this for many dif reasons,,like if ya get some stale middies,, some crumple dry mexi brick,, or if ya go away for wekk and let your shit dry out tooo fastt
