FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Federal and local law enforcement spent the morning raiding marijuana groves in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Large areas of the foothills in and around Squaw Valley are covered in marijuana groves. The Fresno County Sheriff's Department is working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and federal prosecutors to enforce the federal pot ban. Sheriff's officials have been investigating this particular property for several months.
Lt. Rick Ko said, "Our initial estimate in April was about 7800 plants, which translates into about $9 million."
On April first the growers were put on notice that sheriff's officials would be moving in to remove the plants.
The owner says he ignored that notice because it was from the sheriff's office, not federal authorities.
Thursday morning all of those plants were removed by sheriff's deputies who had obtained a federal warrant.
"There's probably a wide range of things that they're using it for, both sales and medicinal purposes. Those types of things come out in the investigation or after the cultivation is done. So we really can't determine that. There are medical recommendations there."
The property owner spoke exclusively to Action News. They gave us a tour of the property as the plants were being removed. He did not want to show his face -- but he says the 4-6 acre grow is part of a medical marijuana co-op.
"It was state stamped, I was doing it by the guidelines from the state of California."
He says he's not angry law enforcement shut him down. But he is angry at the state.
"The state shouldn't have sold me a license. They took my money giving me a state stamped license telling me I could do this."
He admits he's not even sure who tends to the plants or how they get paid. Investigators say they get around 10 calls per day for marijuana grow-related issues in the Squaw Valley area alone.
This bust is part of Operation Mercury which spans six Valley counties. Its goal is to send a message to growers that they will be shut down. And since investigators spotted more marijuana they will have more work to do as they clear those pot farms out soon.

damn what a bust. ken sounds like you just need to keep it under 5000 new seeds a year bro!

-- that sucks that you are in the target zone...better keep yo head down playa.

yeah..i think my garden is pretty small compared to most up here.

But just to be sure I just went out and did some Culling...lol...small stuff of my own I was playing around with,...no room for those...gotta keep it under 99...I think I will be ok for a while..

If they keep doing these busts every week., Then Im gonna start to worry

but they gave those guys a warning back in april..told them to shut it down.

I hope they give me that courtesy at least o_O

youll be good bro...they aint even close to worried about you...at a local board of supervisors meeting i had the opportunity to talk to people in charge of some of these operations in those "6 counties" and they're concerned with grows on large agricultural property scale and on BLM (govt) land. you will be fine..just stay smart and keep your numbers where they belong...were all pee-ons compared to the gardens in the sierras with tens of thousands bro

So people here are siding with growers who knew damn well they were growing on public and forest land with no permits but state pot cards? Shit, miners, farmers and ranchers all need permission and so do all other private parties, because it's public land. Not theirs. I'm not so sure I'm cool with the idea that these characters were somehow all innocent with this. As a society, we talk about protecting wildlands from uncontrolled development- and this is the worst kinds of slash and grow, pour nasty chemicals all over the place cuz the land isn't yours kind of thing that destroys natural habitats the fastest.

So I say NO. They can grow their dope without fucking up MY (and yours, and all other citizens') great outdoors, thank you very much. And if they insist, they will- and should- be treated like the trespassers they are.

It seems the guy in the story was doing this on his land. They refer to him as the 'property owner'

outwest

Hmmm... didn't see this on the first read, apparently. This makes things different, of course. Now, the goons have the duty to show cause why they can just go around willy-nilly and wipe out people's crops without due process? I don't care if they're Feds or not- this country is supposedly under the rule of law, and this sure doesn't look like it respects the property owners' rights to me...

Funny how the right wingers will scream about your right to carry a weapon, but not your right to do as you please on your own property, so long as it doesn't hurt others?? This is as far as the pendulum will swing; when they trample all your rights to try and stop you from exercising your rights as a free citizen.

State stamped and growing legal? It sounds like another court battle and waste of tax dollars. Not to mention the loss of his crops. Once again the pigs are "keeping us all safe." ...and the media will spin it to look like a heroic victory on the war on drugs....with officers "risking their lives" to "save the children."

Plant your extra seeds everywhere. Cover the globe with MJ. What will they do when it's growing wild everywhere? :)

ken you will be fine....these idiots have hundreds if not thousands of plants....there just askin to get busted.

Play it safe people, more plants doesnt mean more meds.....Grow around 25 plants, take the time, spend the $$ and grow monsters...get 5+lb plants...you never need anymore than that IMHO...
