ok so im diving into this breeding thing head first, and i thought i new everything until i see all the confusing terms. If someone could straighten it out a little for me, i would be most appreciative. My first question is what exactly is a backcross. I have a cindy 99bx1, i thought for the longest that bx1 was a plant it crossed with lol. so if i have a cindy 99bx1 does that mean that someone took 2 clones from (diffferent)cindy 99s and crossed them?? And is a f2 just the first generation of clones from a plant?? i have a cheese plant and if i clone her once. is that generation the f2? And what would i have to do to backcross? What does backcrossing actually do. Also is a hybrid just two plants from opposite spectrums? Like a highly indica mixed with a highly sativa?my questions are almost never ending sry this is so long and i hope my questions arents stupid or making me sound like a noob, ive confused myself a little more since i started typing lol. another question i have is how do breeders mix 3 plants together? example: mendo purp-purple urkle-x-grapeape-x-grandaddy purps? do they just mix a male and female of the first to, and then cross it with the 3rd? and wouldnt it only have a 1/4 of the genetics from the first 2 and half from the last. i am grateful to any breeders that wana shed a little light on me,, and i NEED it thanks guys.

sry guys gotta another i looked down the page and seen ibl for inbred line. can someone please break down the differences and advantages of a backcross and a inbred line? I am very interested to know and think others are too. Thanks to all u knowledgeable breeders that share the wealth with us lil farmers!!

//What up bro... Well Im not a breeder, but i can help you out a bit on the breeding terminology.

First of all, the clones you take from a plant dont make those clones f2's or f anything. They are the same
as the plant you took the clone from.

If your planning on breeding, make sure you set a goal or a type of plant you want at the end of your
breeding adventure. For example, if you want a plant that has purple bracts (calyx), and that it flowers early
breed only with parnets that have those characteristics. There are many more combanations that you can mix
as long as you like the end outcome, it might take you a couple generations but you'll get there.

Thanks dude. so the only way to cross them is to pollinate a female. so if i crossed a cheese with something like purple urkel would that be the f2 generation?daaammm i sound like a noob but i rly do know sum shit lol

you need to get a good grow book or do some more research on the net,the only way.
like i said i know i sound like a noob cuz im new to the breeding and terminology, but i do know alot compared to most. ive had marijuana growers handbook by ed rosenthal for over a year and read it cover to cover, but it speaks nothing of this terminology. i wanted to jorge cervatnis bible but the book store did not have it, and ive watched all his videos so i dnt even think his book would help me much. i would have to get a book based on breeding marijuana any suggestions?

Bx is going to be a back cross to one of the parents.
A son or doughter making babys with mom or dad.

F1 is two different strains crossed to gather.
Making baby's with a stranger.

F2 is two plants of the same strain crossed together.
Making baby's with your brother or sister.

Ibl is plants that have been Fd a lot. No pun intened.
Making babys with your brother or sister, when your parents were brother and sister, and so on.

Hybrid vigor happens when to different species like indica and sativa breed.
Making mixed baby's.

Hope that helps.
dude that helped so much that u have no clue. i have never laghed so hard while getting so much info...brothers sisters making babies with strangers lol. but thats how i needed to hear it thanks!but now i only have more questions so sry.
So bx is a child crossed with one parent?Example:crossed cheese and purp to make a f1 generation. bread that gereation with the (parent)purp so that is a bx?
A f2 is 2 of the same strain crossed so if i have a cheese male and cheese female crossed that would be a f2?
ibl: sounds like it could still be above my head right now, but that sounds like 2 strains made a baby, crossed it with mommy or daddy and/or bros n sisses? that is so complicating and exicting!! thanks so much dude. that y i love this site, so many knowledgeable growers that think like me!! u guys r awesome!!

The marinuana breeders bible would be a good start. But IMVHO don't take every thing in those books as gospel.
thanks dude more good info!!more good info. love ur quote also. do u have a fav book?

So the only way to make a f2 is to cross 2 of the same strain? and the only way to make a f1 is to cross diff strains?

ANNd when u breed 2 of the same strain to make a f2 it is the exact same genetics? dosent loose potency? what would be the point of making an f2? just to have new plants and continue the line?

Since i have a cindy99bx1. that means in was bred with another strain? and backcrossed with either the mother or the father. do i know that it was crossed with the cindy99 since is says cindy99bx1?And y would they tell me cindy99bx1 without tellin me the other strain?? is this correct?

Ok say you have a female, purple urkle. The purple urkle is a clone only meaning that a male doesn't exist. But you want a male. So you take a purple #1 and cross it to your purple urkle. You go through the children and pick the male that looks closest to the mom and back cross. Then in the bx generation you continue to f the sinlings untill you find the male that is identical to the purple urkle.

That's about as indept as I can get bro. There is a thread that I think texis kid posted that was a blog chimera wrote that is really good, find it.
helped tremendously almost brought tears to my eyes halfway through....thanks! and yea im lookin for that thread cuz texas kid knows his shit

Actually fellas an f1 is the crossing of two true breeding strains, as defined by R.C. Clarke! When you cross a hybrid strain with a hybrid strain you're creating a poly-hybrid! Combining 2 true breeding strains the progeny have less variation, when using hybrids there are less stable genes combining which causes more variation in the siblings, it takes more work stabilizing a strain created using hybrids....hope this helps!

LOL yeah that's some confusing stuff, I've been rubbing elbows with a couple breeders whose ethnics I have nothing but respect for! Motarebel set me straight with that info and I'd been reading out of Marijuana Botany and The Breeder's Bible for the past 3 years and still didn't understand until he recently clarified it!

//One of the best books out there for breeding is Marijuana Botany, you can find it on the books app. on your phone.

Though I agree that most farmers out there should own a copy of this book. I would disagree on the value it may provide for an aspiring seed maker/breeder. The info is a bit outdated and the more we learn of traits within genotypes and there ability to express themselves, makes this even less useful of a tool. DJ shorts book may have a number of clues and VERY useful info. He is DJ Short, though a bit proud of his gear at the prices, but I digress. Interwebs is going to give you all the info you need. Read through the Lab of Jaws, hereon the farmer. Information a g0-go!!

Hope this helps, and that is sweet you can get an app for your phone that lets you get that book!

Peace
