Normally, when a system is healthy and setup proper, you should see a slight increase in pH as the EC/PPM levels drop slightly and this is due to the ion exchange (+h)......

Some different schools of thought I have seen in the UC system is to keep the top off tank at a level where the EC/PPM never drops in your EPI, but stays steady at what ever value you set it at....

Then another school of thought is to use only RO water in the top off tank or tap water if your using tap and then do a drain and fill every 7 to 14 days or when ever a certain EC/PPM level is reached.....

Then of course you have a "mix" of the above so to speak that some follow as well as complete custom nutrient packages, and feeding schedule. But they will all usually share some common core fundamental values of a RDWC type system......

You have a very NICE setup and grow there....keep up the excellent work!! You are on track for a really nice reward at the end of that rainbow, for sure!!

Remember how efficient the UC system is by design with nutrients in general, meaning it will always take a lot less than more......

Thanks for your reply. I hope i do get a good reward for all my labor...but if i dont the only person i can blame is me.

Hmm..I'll probably just keep doing what im doing. Im running tap water outta my sediment filter at about 25 ppm into the uc for top offs and change outs. I think im just freaking out cause of the recent nute change an weird ph swing after lights out....but funny thing is three days after "today"everything looks right in line with barley any ph change during lights off.

One thing i would like to delve into a little more is....the silver insulation/foam stuff me an a few other growers on here have used. Ever since i put that stuff on the lids and top half of my pvc pipes it has smelled a little chemically....nothing harsh or irritating just a faint smell. I do vent my tent and whatnot. I got the kind that has the sticky back so its a little easier to apply. I smelled the sticky foam part and thats what the faint smell was smelling like....hmmm off gassing?

The plants do seem healthy...but maybe its just a slight irritation to them (hopefully not choking them) Maybe this is another ocd bs thing like the ph swing with lights...idk. My buddy up the way never used any off the insulation stuff..thought i would better my system and use insulation to help keep temps down and light out. Wondering if i did all this for no reason and created a problem in the end.

Anyone out in the farm have any inclinations to an off gassing problem, with the silver insulation stuff?

Thanks guys!

^^^^ I'm over thinking this damn system... making up problems in my head. Everything is looking good.

i think you are better buy insulation with out sticky back ,,,, double rap the pipe 100mm insulation,,,, thats a good job,,,, and just use the large aliminium tape foil. etc

then when you brake the system down all you have to do it cut the taped seam and have not damaged equipment

Ink, yeah man i think the next round will be a different insulation. I was going to try pulling it all out last night but with cages and scrog net and plants getting bigger i would of done more harm then good. If the system yields good ill just get the hoodies from CC and be done. I was gonna use the non sticky back insulation, but got the sticky for easy installation. Oh well live an learn.
Thanks Ink!

By now, the farm probably thinks im a complete psycho with over thinking (ocd) this system. I'm a man of quality not quantity...thats why it took me forever to finally drop into hydro. I gotta keep up a certain quality or patients get pissy or live with pain. Not on my watch...very small backup soil grow going for a CYA situation. So, thats why i take this stuff so seriously...its not a hobby.

Thanks farm....happy bountiful growing for everyone.

Your heart is in the right place, time to get your mind to behave too!! I understand the pressure i recently stopped running a 5000 sq ft, warehouse and moved to smaller digs over the quality issue. I'll be bringing a show soon enough, almost have it all rebuilt and out under control after the last minute loss of the last grow spot,........3 months and 5K later i'm much leaner and hopefully meaner too, and cannot wait to get the Co2 flowing under the new 4k setup.

Your tent is looking great, and the ladies seem to dig the hybrid caged~screen, keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

self stick insulation not good,,,, so lesson learned,,, pro's don't use this or short cut.
remember planning,, design, using the right material for the job, will help you in the long run.
good luck all the best ink

Thanks man...i try an do the best i can with space i got. Planning is key and it sounds like you did just that.

For sure on that ink. I planned just not all the little stuff... next round will be a lot smoother i hope.

Thanks guys

Day 25 of bloom.

Did a top off a 2 days ago sitting pretty at 6.0 an 560 ppm for the past day. I also did a little pruning and defoliation, also moved my fan to the floor to blow across the bottoms of plants and up...The screen and cages are working great....i think.I have been training the side shoots to go up along cage to hit the net and bend the tops over and position for best light an outta the way of the other plants branches. Im shooting for a 4'x7' carpet of foot+ tall buds.:)

Looking VERY TIGHT!!! i think your gonna crush that with a 20# sledge hammer, from the looks at 25 days in, NICE!!!!!
What are us using to prevent root issues, as i remember it was H2O2 Right? i have a new friend that just suffered a Rot Issue in the UC system and i'm looking for a repair and restore recipe that i could suggest,........any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated!!

Hey UCMETOO fwiw I battled rot algae in my systems, you can check out what I did here on page 6&7 if you like https://www.thcfarmer.com/community/threads/cch2o-uc-rdwc-20x1000w.49536/page-6 Scary shit for sure. There are a few other good threads by people who have fought it in the uc too. Notably Hogan400 and gettogrow. Good luck.

Oh and the tent is looking real nice turbo!

Some people run beneficials (Great White, Florashield, Pirahna, Taratula,or even your own tea)in their hydro with great results and they help prevent pathogens. I have had success with benies in hydro with enormous yields but it can get crazy ph fluctuations and unstable in your res and much more difficult than running a sterile res.
A combination of keeping a Sterile clean res and keeping it simple like only adding a base fert and maybe 1 flower booster IMO and keeping res temps under 66 deg at all times is the best way to prevent root rot...products like Dutch Master Zone, H202, UC ROOTS, some even use small amounts of bleach, will help to keep it sterile But even with these products root rot can still occur and it can be a nightmare and a lot of the time if it gets bad enough you will never get rid of it. Hate to be so blunt but if you want the truth then this is the reality of it. If you already sterilized the shit out of your system and it still comes back some people have had to toss all there equipment, pumps, meters, buckets, measuring cups, wands, hoses, i mean everything thats come in contact with the rot. Best chance against it is to start sterile from day one and never let it go cause you will regret it.

Thanks man I hope all this work/worry will eventually pay off. Yes I'm using h2o2 very lightly and keeping water temps low 60-66 max. I would tell him to buy a gallon of bleach along with new stones, air line, tube cleaning brush, and maybe a new pump. I have never had severe root rot yet "knocking on wood" so i would not say i'm correct..but maybe going in the right direction.

Thanks Fellas!

^^^^^YEP!!

i've had experience with the Great White and even had good results, however i understand that using it with h2o2 is like jumping on both ends of the teter-taughter, so i stopped,..... i haven't had an issue i could not cure with with H2O2 (yet!?!?) and i'm now using Clear Rez (muric acid) as a preventitive ~soon to be CU ROOTS~ but it does not give me the freakish white i get using the H2o2 so i do not feel like i have experienced all the potential down sides, or benefits. So thank you for the input the more the better,.......!!!!

Good progress on your first UC run bud! Time to hit them girls with a res change and PK boost... I'd also veg for just a few more days on your next round before you flip..

^^^ Thanks bro! ...next time will be much better. I have learned so much already and im almost half way done with this round. And yes, i already swapped out the res and gave them a bit more boost this time.

I'm also thinking of swapping out to a pair of 1k watts an get them some more light? Would this boost in light do more harm then good?

There might be some lumen shock and some issues controlling heat and humidity... Unless you can dim the 2kW for a couple days and/or raise them... Personally, I'd just stick with the 1200W and upgrade to 2kW on the next round...

Cool...yeah i should be getting my 240v hooked up to the MLC sometime this week so ill have the power to safely run all my lights without worrying about blowing any breakers. I barely have any heat with the two 600s now...but i know the 1kw can throw some heat. The reason for the upgrade is because the hoods are not adjustable height wise. This stationary lighting has me limited on the 600 intensity so the opt for the 1kw seemed like a wise choice. Anyway im gonna wait till this round is done and do the lighting tweaks along with some other things i learned.

Thanks Shady!

Day 32 flower
I took the humidifier out and gave them a res change out two days ago. Everything is going good...at least i think it is lol.I also dropped the ph to 5.7 and got the ppm at 650. Still debating on the 800watt upgrade for the finish of this round. The 240v will be in an running by this evening also...gosh i cant wait to have some strong power and less stress about electrical stuff.
