Good Lord, that last trich pic was so pornographic it made my tongue hard and my pr*ck water! "How DOES he do it?!"
Fortunately, even 40-50,000 hectares burned is a postage stamp in the Rocky Mountains. I'll just have to go a little farther afield to explore and fish, so don't feel too sorry for me... and DON'T, please, don't do a rain dance! Erosion will be a big concern for the next few years, until ground cover has had a chance to get established. You're right on about the animals though- they're in tough shape this year and many didn't survive the fires last summer.
I see nothing wrong with leaving some stuff beneath- the main thing is to direct the lion's share of the plant's energy to the tops in the sun. I'm sure whatever is left beneath will come along fine. It IS sunlight, after all- it does have a way of penetrating!
