Am I nuts? Or, does an inside-out tree make sense to you?

Hahaha, it's a photo of a forest altered with fish-eye effect. Not my photo, but I really like it. :)

I'll admit, I just had to Google Rendezvous With Rama. Good book?

Written by the guy who came up with the concept of communications satellites, Arthur C. Clarke was a towering figure in American Science Fiction circles for decades. Right up there with Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein in terms of influence. Those three whet my appetite for the future, and you can see the results on this thread.

Damn it, you quoted me before the edit. It wasn't with fish-eye, it was a panorama shot, not that it really matters.

Cool, might check it out. Never really read much science fiction, more of a fantasy reader, though now I rarely read fiction books at all.

Yeah, since I'm on a smartphone, it's easier for me to blast somethin up, then edit later. It's happened to me a lot!

The best science fiction is only fiction because it hasn't happened... yet. That's the stuff I read every chance I get and someday I aspire to write some, myself.

Interesting view, fiction that isn't a current reality, but could one day become one. I like it. I find that's what I like in movies these days. If I can find some scientific justification, I enjoy it a lot more than if it's all just unbelievable rubbish.

Unbelievable rubbish, aka 'fantasy'- not that I'm running the genre down, but there's a clear and bright line between the two.

I see no reason why the Laws of Physics should unfairly limit the imaginations of good writers, and their work becomes far more relevant than if they don't.

Red Mars, Blue Mars, Green Mars is an excellent example.

You will easily be able to hit 4 lbs off 2 lights with that set up. Let them fill the screens half way, and then flip. You need to do a lot of weaving, pinching, tying back and spreading out but it can be done no problem.

Sweet! Thanks for the words of encouragement, and of course you're right about the training. This is basically espalier and I'm working from the back side. I'm not sure I can stand to wait long enough for them to fill in, lol

The bulb is stationary, above the plane of the plants to allow them to harden off and encourage them to grow up and fill in the trellis. I'm going to install the mover when the plants gain more height.

Meanwhile, it's BRIGHT in there- sunglasses are inadequate!

I was just looking over earlier parts of this thread... I've been trying to get this thing off the ground for a MINUTE now, damn!

Anyway, I wanted to thank all those with the patience to wait this long- nevermind the slog thru 12 pages of theory and 'are we there yet?'

Waterfall upgrade; in response to a suggestion that waterfalls might work better if the water isn't one simple stream, I cobbled up a spreader of sorts; I cut some pieces of 1/2" tubing up, capped the end and cut a 3" vertical slit down the side of each one.

¡Viola! Of course, I have no clue if this is any better, or just looks sexy, lol. I'm thinking the ladies will tell us one way or the other?

This kind of chicanery with my photography only happens here- and only since the upgrade.

Quick update; the ladies are getting settled in and getting their grow on. The only way vigorous growth of one to two inches a day looks small is when there's three feet of open space in every direction.

If I'm patient and let the plants fill these things all the way up, one elbow per would be a very low bar to reach. If I could stand to wait it out, I'd be surprised to get much less than two per, or eight altogether out of these two units. From just 2kW.

i would think that slit would cause more surface area for the air to interact with the water. but what do i know may not change a thing
