Sittn in the blind with the old man yesterday......said fuck dad we aint seeing shit lets see if this helps. fired up a fatty of some dank ass Bubba coughed my ass off! passed it to the old man,
looked up and there she was ...........best deer lure there is!

I agree! It IS the perfect lure! Same thing happened to me last time I went hunting. It's been a few years, but I was walking in to my stand, and it was a good hike. I took a different route in and came upon a nice field clearing in the woods with some good trails and fresh tracks around the perimeter. I was pretty tired as I had worked that day. On n a whim, I decided just to hang there awhile. It was still fairly early and I had time to get to my stand and get set for the evening hunt. I sat down with my back to a tree and pulled out one of several phatties I had twisted in advance. I sparked it and took a couple hits. I looked up and saw a couple of does and a spike on the other side of the field. It seemed they were nervous about something, and next thing I knew, a nice 8-point buck came out of the woods headed straight toward the does. Clearly, he was in full rut and throwing caution to the wind. (I've had the same look in my eye at the bar after a few shots)! I leveled the scope down on him and fired a round from my .270. He looked up and in my direction, but just stood there. I fired a 2nd shot and down he went. When I got to him, he had two perfectly placed entrance wounds that you could have covered with a quarter. I don't think he even knew he was shot. It was a clean, humane kill...and some of the best tenderloin backstrap I've eaten! There's actually a bit more to the story, however...

After I got him out and dressed. I realized I did not have my gun tag with me. I had one, but had left it home by accident. All I had was an unfilled tag from muzzle loader season...which was fortunately still good. I tagged him & took him to the check point. I had NO IDEA how I was going to explain how the side-by-side entrance wounds were made by a single-shot weapon, but I got lucky and the officer never even noticed! (Whew)!

I haven't hunted in a few years since I went thru a divorce and moved, but I'm planning to get back out there next year. Congrats on the nice kills guys! Super pics too! Best of luck to everybody, and above all...STAY SAFE!!! -Max :wacky:

we cannot rifle hunt down here in the sw corner max. when I bought my inline muzzleloader, I put my shotgun away. it's all I will ever use to hunt deer here. I went out this morning to chase the monster, was 18f degrees cold, snowing. I had the beast in my scope at 312 yds out, at 9:15 am. was no way I was taking the shot. too far out. I watched him go away. it was the closest I've been to him. I want him badly. who will win? me or the beast? I'm on his trail. I envision him hanging on my wall every waking hour. I don't always get what I want, but I do put the work in that makes it a good possibility.

I'm in for the day to watch the game. if my lions are dragging their feet at half, i'll most likely hit the woods, and start tracking. fresh powder on the ground. relocate a couple climbers. can't kill monsters like these on the couch. lol. (gotta at least look out window). lol.

Irish...one word baby...TIVO!!!!! Haha! Mmmm, that fresh powder on the ground, and the unfinished business with "the monster" would DEFINITELY have me back out, freezing my ass off this evening! The 300+ yard encounter would be all it would take for me, bro! I'd be hooked like a fish! With a little luck, you'll be trying not get blood on the remote tonight as you finish the game! ;)

Good luck, bro!

Max :wacky:

By the way...those are some damn nice bucks you've got on the wall already! Any good stories there?

I don't think the pot had anything to do with it , its just we all smoke pot while hunting so chance are if you see a deer you just smoked as that is a must when walking the cold woods or chilling in a tree stand ... pre- rolled is a must to ....

I'm done killing for the season. (lucky for the deer eh? lol) I killed eleven does, and two bucks for my family's freezers, and mine. I would had killed more had it not been for having an accident last week, in which I got a broken nose, and my eyes were closed, black n blue. I was hanging a couple does, and a coyote to skin out, in the barn with my friend, when a chain swung down haphazardly from the rafters, and the hook clipped me on the bridge of the nose. shattered my glasses, and layed my nose on the side of my face. I've been layed up for a week now with some hot totties, and my hot wife. (shes always hot about something) lol.

I ventured out first time today since my accident. I can finally see again with the aid of dark glasses. I am a gander at heart, and I had a yearning to get out and check ice. those gills are calling me man. over the past week, temps been in the teens, and snowed everyday. my sled is tuned with a fresh rebuild, and ready to run trap, ice fish, and carry me over the next hill. I tracked out to lake 11 over near grand junction with a bro I met up with en-route. there is just enough ice to walk on, with some open areas still, so were opting for a showing next week sometime. I feel safer waiting another week, but a lot are already braving the ice. I'm hardcore, but I'm not dumb. I see a lot of men go down every winter out here daring thin ice. I'm not going out that way. four inches, or we wait by the fire!

pics are last two does taken for hunters for hunger. the day after I shot those two, it started to snow, and hasn't stopped. the plows and disc in pic is now covered under snow. I captured the setting sun, to be the last i'll see til spring...peace friends...

No wonder you were able to kill 11 does and two bucks...the deer where you are have no feet! Hell, that's not even sporting!

Haha...srry, couldn't resist! Wow...so sorry to hear about your accident bro! What a bitch! I can just hear the bones crushing in my mind as that chain hits! Ugh! :blackeye: Hope your recovery is fast & full!! Best, -Max :wacky:

P.S. Beautiful pics too man!

right on sixstring! props...

green giant, hope you are blessed with a big Washtenaw buck. I've heard about some beasts from the area for many years. I've taught every kid in my family to hunt, that took an interest in it. my kids, sisters kids, bros kids, all learned to handle a weapon properly under my supervision many years ago. some of my best memories were of first deer kills with the kids i got to mentor. but the best was my own sons first kills. they don't hunt much these days, because they are busy raising families and working, but they will always have the tools i gave them when the woods calls them back. they will never go hungry.

max, your deer have feet?! mine had hooves. lol. that is how i field dress my kills. i leave those and the gut pile to attract other animals i will trap. no waste. its all eaten by something. we bait traps with fat back and trim waste from the deer we process. I've shot deer standing over a gut pile many times. its a tale when you hear anyone say deer won't go near one. just messy when one lands in one. haha. you'll definitely need a drink afterwards.

merry xmas, happy new year...peace...

Irish for the WIN:D, holy shit that is one nice rack, what was the score on him ?, I sure hope you entered some Big Buck Contest in you area, He is going to place high.

sorry bout that chief. to answer, the score was 148. I placed third in our contest. thank you kindly. 1st place winner scored a 160 on a beautiful 4 year old 12. was a clean contest. all bucks local. winner took 1200 cash, a Remington 1100, and some real tree camo gift cards in HER xmas stocking. what a nice stocking it was too! we don't discriminate, even though she had the upper hand on scent control if ya feel me. she enticed that buck like a black widow devouring a mate. lol. totally awesome girly hunter.

piping and contemplating hunts for next season. next up, ice fishing in the sw corner of the dirty mitten. it's on. I caught 9 gills today. i'll post pics when we slaughter a mess. was a warm day here, sunny, 45f. great day for ice fishing. hitting the lake again first light. peace friends...
