Helping Sprout Along?

Hi all,

I planted 4 Herijuana seeds in Rapid Rooters. 2 of the seeds are now seedlings. The other 2 are still under their Rapid Rooter covers. One looks like it's close to busting through its cover, so hopefully it'll make it.

The other one I'm worried about. It looks like it landed tip/root up, and might be stuck in its hole. I know roots are "supposed" to grow up and then down, but I wonder if it got stuck since I created a deeper hole with tweezers to give the roots more room to take hold.

Is it possible to help it along, or should I leave it as is and hope for the best?

Let me know, thanks.

Would mist it with correct ph water only (no nutes) and hope for the best!

Thanks. You talking about misting the plug, or taking the cover off and misting the seed inside?

Take the cover off, they don't need that and it encourages mold. Keep a bit of water in the tray. You can VERY GENTLY pull some of the media back to see if the seed has germinated. If so, try getting them a bit warmer and see if that helps. Some seeds take a bit longer.

By cover I meant rapid rooter pieces that protect the tap roots from light. I threw those away too. I'll post a few photos. It looks like the seed shell might be weighing the stem down in at least one case. I sprayed the 2 in question with a bit of water before I left for work, and there's water in the tray. I increased the temp by 1 degree, last night I think. There's a radiator heater in there so I don't want to dry the tent out too much. I think the heat mat thermostat says it's around 77 F.

Any thoughts?

There was a pretty significant development while I was at work today. The seedling on the end is now out of the RR hole! The seed shell is stuck on it though. Will it fall off at some point?

And the last seedling looks like it's trying. I'm wondering if it's caught on that bit of RR. Should I try to help it get unstuck, or leave it alone?

they're looking fine. wouldn't mess with them just yet, let em get their bearings in this new thing called life. the shells will fall off on their own 90% of the time, very seldom do I assist their "birth". don't doubt this plant's resiliency. it's truly phenomenal how persistent these plants are even at that age.

I ended up carving a hole in the RR for the fourth one, since I read that they can die if they get stuck: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=1830103&postcount=7

I tried to not touch the leaves with the tweezers I used. I did slightly touch one of the tall ones on accident, but it should be ok right? Here's a picture of the area I carved out for the seedling:

I know roots are "supposed" to grow up and then down

When are roots supposed to grow up? I thought they followed gravity, but what do I know... I lost my Herijuana last season. I made F2s to keep the genetics in the vault, but those walked away with all of my other chuckings (still in the buds). It doesn't taste too great, but it is fucking crippling for sure. Nap time buddha for sure. With this plant, patience is always a virtue. Too much attention, especially this early in the plant's growth cycle, usually make for a plant's demise in my experience. I like it when I get so busy that I forget about my seedlings for a little. Like the saying "a watched pot...". That being said, I have definitely taken off a few seed hulls with mixed results. Good luck! Positive vibes...

What I meant by "roots grow up, then down" is that they make a u-turn:

Why did you lose the crop? I definitely don't want that to happen to me. I usually check the seedlings twice a day. Sometimes a little more, but I'm busy Monday through Friday. Thanks for the positive vibes :)

Here's an update. All 4 of them are out of the RR holes now, so success on that at least. I'm worried about the fourth one with the seed shell still attached to it. The one leaf is yellow, and there's a curve in the stem. What do you think; should I try to remove it, or wait it out?

Toaster, what were you doing that caused that to happen, and what were you trying to fix?
