We are nearing the end of our pheno hunt of the following varieties:
Sour Diesel x White Shark Mandala (Gage Green)
Ghost OG x Grateful Breath (Gage)
Mendo Breath F3 (Gage)
Zamaldelica x Apollo 11 Genius F3 (Bodhi)
Congolese x Mother's Milk (Bodhi)
Dragon Blood Hashplant (Bodhi)
Keepers were found of the Ghost OG x Grateful Breath, Zamaldelica x Apollo 11, and possibly the Congolese x Mother's Milk. The GOG x GB keeper is incredibly dense, a vigorous producer, and has unparalleled resin production. She smells of OG Kush, gasoline, and very mild cookies. Our Zamaldelica x Apollo 11 keeper is a hugely-impressive yielder of tropical, sweet, fruit-smoothie sativa hand-grenade-baseball-bats. She is quick-maturing and very stout for a sativa. Finally, the Congolese x Mother's Milk is a bushy hybrid smelling of Christmas-time potpourri, Christmas tree, and candy valentine hearts.
As for plants we decided not to keep....
The The SD x WSM came out with good trichome production, and strawberry/red apple
terpenes. Our clone-only Amnesia Haze seems to embody the same profile but more intensely. For this reason we will not be keeping any females. The Mendo Breath F3 phenotypes were all surprisingly mellow on aroma. Most had a mild, musty, sweet, candy bouquet that is underwhelming. Trichome production, color, and density were somewhat impressive, but we again felt like we already have superior grape candy clone-only cultivars. The Dragon Blood Hashplant phenotypes were all interesting and unique, but did not warrant keeping around. They are floral, herbal, medicinal-smelling, sweet, and resinous. However, they did not stand out in any particular way besides the novel effect of "bleeding" limbs.
Unfortunately during this search, we received all males of:
Lemon G x White Shark Mandala
Cheese x MendoDawg
Mendo Breath Blast x Mendo Dawg
Daybreaker x Grateful Breath
We have more seeds of all of the above which we will be looking into further.
The Long Valley Royal Kush females were cloned and will make it into the next round. Early on we have distinguished 2 phenotypes. One is a bushy, vigorous, sugary grape-jam plant, and her sister is a short, stout, slower-growing cheesy, botanical-smelling plant. We have already dropped the latter from our cloner, but we have 2 more completely untested females. We have high hopes for these girls.
In the meantime, the work on the Sour Chem Stud project continues. After months of smoking phenotypes and deciding where to pick our breeding from, we have germinated the next round. We have germinated the following in our search:
20x (Chem 3 x (Abusive OG Kush x West Coast Dog) x Stardawg) x (
Chemdog #4 x Stardawg) #1
15x (Chem 3 x (Abusive OG Kush x West Coast Dog) x Stardawg) x (
Chemdog #4 x Stardawg) #2
20x (
Chemdog #4 x Stardawg) F2 #1
15x (
Chemdog #4 x Stardawg) F2 #2
We felt that these were the best Sour-Chem profiled flowers from our selection, and would contribute the most Sour Chemdog-like characteristics. We will be searching from a male from this selection to hit our ECSD, AJ Sour, Lemon Larry OG,
Chemdog #4, Stardawg,
Chemdog 91, Gorilla Glue 4, and any/all of our other Sour Chem clone-only varietals. I will follow up with pictures of the progress this week. In the meantime, flower reviews of
Chemdog #4 x Stardawg and Chem 3 x (Abusive OG Kush x West Coast Dog) x Stardawg are available at higherthought.guru/blog.
In addition to searching for the penultimate Sour Chem male, we will be testing and hunting some Dragon Slayer x Guava 13 (Strayfox gardens) and Purple Kush x Kashmir (Bodhi) seeds. The remainder of our Mendo Breath Blast x MendoDawg seeds will be germinated soon as well. The pheno hunting never stops, and the terps are never loud enough....
