His latest album, Lazarus, released on the Bowie's 69th birthday just two days before his death, opens with the lyrics: "Look up here, I'm in Heaven!"
Its video, which will be viewed in a very different light by millions of fans today, features the musician in a hospital bed, and finishes with him retreating in to a dark closet.

The album is Blackstar, the song must be Lazarus.

This is devastating news, that Bowie is gone. I was raised a HUGE Bowie fan. My parents bought for each other on the event of their 25th wedding anniversary this pencil portrait of Bowie, done by Ron Woods. They recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary, so I'm guessing this is going to be worth a mint.

I was raised on stuff like Bowie. My mother's fantasy was to have Bowie walking barefoot through her living room singing. She and my dad bought each other a pencil portrait of Bowie done by Ron Woods. They loved him that much.

I have to admit, I'm having a hell of a time accepting it. I keep going through his most recent photos and he doesn't look great, but neither did he look like he was at the end of his life.

We are bereft.
