Looks like a piece of art..

Check this out.
My friend Pete Rowan and band..
Wait till min. 4.00 and check out Tony Rice's picking..
He makes it look so easy..
I asked Sam Bush once how in the hell did you ever learn to pick like that.
He replied he has picked every day almost all day for most of his life..

That was absolutely wonderful. All it really did though is make me want that Goddess on mandolin...

My friends in the Seldom Scene from back in the day. John Duffy on mandolin was a total riot..
I would heckle him at live shows him by shouting out Hey john take that cucumber out of your pants.
He responded by saying in a gay tone..i already did sweetheart.
Great pickers. Duffy sure could sing as well.

I'm a finger picker. Always have been. Many moons ago I'd bring in these cassettes to my guitar teacher, Dr. Michael Stromberg in Los Angeles. Crosby, Stills, Nash(and later, Young); classical; flamenco; Rush, Andre Segovia, Chopin.... Man, I threw everything at that guy! He was good and he was always determined to deliver what I wanted to learn.

I watched Mikey listen to whatever it was that I'd brought in first, then his eyes would roll up into his head and jiggle around a few seconds before the magic unfolded. He was that good.

I watched him tune to it; which he then helped me tune to it and then gave me the tools to remember how to get back to that tuning again when needed. Then he'd find the "path" as he called it which was the music itself.

So after 38 years of playing I'm a lot like Mikey. Lol! I listen to it; tune to it; find it and replicate. Well, when not ripping out my own stuff!

Oh man I love this.
Charles Swatelle on guitar was just amazing.
I met Charles late one night on the last day of Rocky grass festival probably 25 or so years ago.
walking down the lane on way home carrying his guitar case show and weekend over .
I told him hey Charles you must here my friend Hitoshi play his banjo.
I had befriended Hitoshi who had never been to states was totally lost till we took him under wing day before fest. he was wandering lost....
Charles and him jammed for a couple of hours and both were really having fun
Hitoshi could not believe that he jammed with Charles as he studied intensely bluegrass in Kobe japan..
BTw an amazing beyond belief picker...
Charles got real sick and left us way to early..A very kind man..
Leukemia it was pretty horrible..

Oh man I love Doc..
Met him in Boulder once.
He was sitting alone backstage after sound check so I sat next to him we talked a bit and he asked me to lead him outside for some fresh air. Was sat and talked and several folks came up to say hello and he knew who they were just by their voice..
He remember one ladies daughter by name and asked how she was doing..
I brought my parents the next night and introduced them after the show to Doc who was so warm and friendly.
His first guitar his dad made out of a cat hide..
A cherished memory will never forget his warmth...

Hold on... Lemme stoke up a fire and stick some s'mores. I'm enjoying this!!! I was at Rocky Mountain Bluegrass in 94'. You've got quite a fine taste in "grass" man. No pun intended...
