I'm a finger picker. Always have been. Many moons ago I'd bring in these cassettes to my guitar teacher, Dr. Michael Stromberg in Los Angeles. Crosby, Stills, Nash(and later, Young); classical; flamenco; Rush, Andre Segovia, Chopin.... Man, I threw everything at that guy! He was good and he was always determined to deliver what I wanted to learn.
I watched Mikey listen to whatever it was that I'd brought in first, then his eyes would roll up into his head and jiggle around a few seconds before the magic unfolded. He was that good.
I watched him tune to it; which he then helped me tune to it and then gave me the tools to remember how to get back to that tuning again when needed. Then he'd find the "path" as he called it which was the music itself.
So after 38 years of playing I'm a lot like Mikey. Lol! I listen to it; tune to it; find it and replicate. Well, when not ripping out my own stuff!
