So I'm in the process of refinishing my basement and hopefully putting a veg down there.

I finished the room adjacent to the supposed veg with drywall and it came out great, gonna be a trim, storage, bedroom about 140sq ft. I was wanting to do the same in other room ' finish it off' but there is a giant gas water heater in it and it has me concerned.
My plan is to build a wall in front of it and put two hinged doors with vented slants in then and maybe leave the hole in the brick behind it that leads under the houses crawl space for combustabal fresh air. After researching more about water heaters been worrying more about co poisoning.

So the end
questions is I plan to do my veg in that room and a closet type room attached to it.
I was going to do an evaporative cooler for temp control and maybe a dehu if needed. Two t5s for saplings in room next to vented water heater doors and
then two 600w mh hoods in closet room for larger veg plants before they are transfered.

In the end I guess I'm worried about sealing off the room because I was advised not too if the water heater was in the room, but what if I put it behind sealed room?
Anyone ever have same problem?
Is evaporative cooler bad idea? Should I vent mh hoods or no because of backdraft?

Thanks can use any help

Never tap into the water tank or furnace exhaust. You risk back flow of Co! Deadly, non-odorous gas. I grow in a basement setting. If you have a vmbasement window that you can open/close, I build/make plexiglass inserts that fit perfectlythat take a 4" or 6" dryer port. I can even make a blueprint for you to make your own. Hone depot or lower sells and will cut for free. I use 2 in my grow.

Hey thanks for the reply, I never planned on tapping into it just need to trying to finish the room without putting anything at risk, the flue pipe has been there took pictures of just to see maybe if it wasn't installed right by who ever did it. So far no serious problems tho lol.
I do really like your idea i just wish I had more of a private window, it leads out to a main side walk frequented by suburbanites but I do have a window near it, it's covered up by panda film right now white side out from my last attempt at a set up.

I'd still like the blueprints for it just in case as last option but I'm hoping I can screen up the hole that leads to crawl space and utilize that without running vents to window facing sidewalk.

You'd probably be ok making the wall in front of it and allowing it to draw fresh air from the crawl space provided the wall wasn't too close, non combustible materials etc etc. I'd look online see if you can find what your local building code says about installing gas heater tanks. Ours is in a small closet type room, that's how I bought it so I'm not 100% that's even correct not that old of a house tho so probably.... Ressarch it a bit I'd hate to give advice and it cause a fire or worse. Peace
