I was goint to tell you that about the horse manure, which is my favorite manure of all because of its structure and bigger particles. As far as I know(but i'm not sure)it is best for flowering, compared with other manures....But never used it clean, interesting.I had that friend that was using only old cow manure and another one that was growing in old, abandoned pig farm without adding anything:)Both plants were nice and huge.....But I would dilute it a little with something and may be add zeolites or other stones along with the perlite. It is possible these abnormalities on the second plant to be caused by staying wet or because the clean manure is a little bit hot.Or both:)May be when they get bigger they will outgrow such problems. It is interesting experiment. The other one looks good.
What about the copper wire?I hear some things about it,that is good for the roots?
The wire is to keep slugs/snails away. It really does work, at least for me.

I don't think the deformity was caused by the manure being hot as no burn on either plant. More than likely it's genetic. It happens just like one will grow big and fast and another takes forever to grow in the exact conditions.

I haven't used cow manure on plants just grass (I should probably use the term "lawn" on this forum). The thing is I'm very careful what I use and purchasing manure I have no way to know what else might be in it like insecticides, hormones, etc. I know where this horse manure is from and the people caring for the horses. And now after using it I see it's safe. I'll be using more of the manure in my soil mixes.

Thankfully a short work day. Lost a couple of jalapeno seedlings. I lose more seedlings in the ground due to drying out than over watering. The ground is more forgiving on too much water but when the top inch or two dries out it means death to seedlings. Almost opposite of growing in a pot as we see on all grow forums.

Sunny this afternoon, finally. June gloom and cloudy skies for most of the past week and the forecast is more of the same for the next two weeks with two sunny days thrown in for fun. It's been difficult to water properly with this weather. Checked on everything this morning before leaving and still lost a couple seedlings.

Had a Bluejay finishing off the Loquats
20190626 120052

Watched him grab one from a lower branch then perch here, rip it open, knock out the seeds and enjoy the fruit. They normally don't allow me to get this close.

These sunflowers are amazing
20190626 115948

Half a dozen flowers within the top foot. The whole plant is full of flowers.

If it were earlier in the season and I needed more plants I'd start taking clones off of this one.
20190626 092501

Really growing well with better weather. I have no need to pollinate so this will be my one virgin this fall, if the gopher doesn't get to it.

It was nice getting that greenhouse out of the front yard.
20190623 151343

Now I plan on filling it with giant pumpkins. I've been racking my brain as to what to put the pumpkin seedlings in to protect them and think I've got a solution
20190626 141612

While only 10" deep the roots will be able to grow through and I'll put straw around them and frame the inside with cardboard to hold the soil. We'll see.

Beautiful day to work in the garden or on the greenhouse and my wife is making me go to the store with her to pick out baby shower gifts for a neighbor. Oh for joy...

Proof the meth crisis is spreading faster than ever before.
WHERE THE HELL'S MY GLASS PIPE???!!! YOU TOOK IT! I KNOW YOU DID!!!
😨

I use to live below a couple of meth dealers. They'd be up 24/7 For weeks. Didn't last long as they ran outta money for rent. Last I heard they were living in a tweakers motel. Hated having to talk to them especially after they accused me of cutting out a section of drywall between our garages and stealing tools. They even called the cops who I invited in and took them to the garage. They knew what was up.

damn just found where I left off. I’m right back on page four.
Gonna take me couple of days to get back in the fold.
I’ll get my other phone working again so can send photos as camera broke on this one
I'm not getting everyone's updates who I'm following either. Gotta search but finding nuggets of info so it's worth it. I'm pretty hard on phones dragging them under houses so I can take pictures to show clients who haven't a clue how their plumbing works and can't make any sense out of the pictures anyway. They nod and say yeah, I see. They're so cute, especially when writting me a check. 😉

Yeah I work with bricklayers my phone is batered. Got it fixed about three weeks ago.
Came back camera don’t work.
Bought one of those extra screen protectors that’s the only thing keeping the screen together as broke it first week I got it back.
Im not cut out for delicate shit.
Work hard play hard.
Yeah it’s not first time with no updates.
It actually pisses me off as I like to help the odd newbie if I can and sure people think I can’t be bothered anymore.
It’s just don’t get the updates.
Still getting Malawi Panama guy and that’s about it.
They want to make it so you’re not able to reply by logging in to e-mail they warn you I found out after about three weeks when I actually read it.
But when you read thread from e-mail it’s too easy to like or reply which is security risk.

That's how I feel, people I've watched/followed for the last five years on this forum, when they post, even though I have them on my followed list, their new posts don't show up, then I have a weeks worth of comments to go through. So If I've skipped anyone's posts, it's because I only have so much time to spare, so I have to speed read every thing, bar the grow/plant parts, I read all of them. 👍

Quick update 6-28

Since the weekend is almost here and I'll be measuring growth Sat and chicken manure tea on Sunday thought I'd share a little today.

Started a batch of tea for Sunday.
20190628 153704

Picked out mainly the manure and filled an 8oz cup to 3 gals treated and pH'ed tap water. Just about out of rain water this year. I'll try to keep the recipe simple and measure each time.

My pollinated girl was happy with the feeding.
20190628 155457

She greened up well. Look at the frost on the seed pods.
20190628 075926

Better post this one as tomorrow I'll only post a pic of the top and tape measure.
20190628 154206

Her sister, the gopher plant, was almost twice her size. I can only dream of what might have been but this one is helping me get over it.

Day 52
20190628 154417

Normally it would be another 3 weeks or so but I've never had bud to harvest in July outdoors so who knows, especially with the longer days.

Lovin' this gopher clone.
20190628 154258

She's sharring space with several Brandywine tomatoes.

Planted my wife's Burro Tails.
20190628 153830

She's most happy. She's been wanting these for some time and a client offered and didn't even know that she wanted a starter.

This alligator lizard
20190627 195305

use to live in my BBQ. I had to chase it out several times, once after I had lit the fire and warmed it up to about 300F. Freaked out when I opened the lid and there he was off to the right away from flame but it was getting hot.

This is what happens to slugs I find in my greenhouse.
20190628 075430

I smash their heads. Little bastards.

I'm going to move this one
20190628 154410

outside with her sister, the one I pollinated and may sprinkle on some pollen. She really needs to be planted in the ground.

Tomorrow is Tale of the Tape and Sunday continues the chicken manure tea tests. More plants will be added to the feed schedule. Until then, Happy Growing!

Tale of the Tape

Busy day with a beautiful sunset.

We did have some sun earlier and was allowed to get a couple shots of this dragonfly.

I moved her out of the greenhouse to the South side of my bedroom by the window with her sister. I had one growing under a window years ago and smelled it all summer long.

I'm tempted to put her in the garage for a few hours a day to get her to start flowering again. I want those seeds.

No change

3 weeks in a row but still 3 weeks away from harvest.

Good growth. Soil is healthy and will skip the monthly blood meal.

8" Clone

6" potted

Growing in the ground always produces larger faster growing plants in my experience. If all would have went as planned I'd have at least 2-3 females going on 3' with a couple more months of veg instead of one. But If I don't put a few in pots I could lose everything to gophers and ground squirrels so I'm stuck with it and my fall/winter greenhouse grow will all be in pots. Oh well.

Tomorrow is tea day, until then Happy Growing!

Yeah always do outdoor but you want longer nodes outside.
I would not like my plants to perform like they do outdoor in my indoor. Unless maybe one plant scrog?

I've been following several farmers doing scrog and find it extremly interesting. I made a frame out of used 2x4's for a row of five tomatoes. Seriously thinking of giving scrog a try in it next spring.
