Cheap Thrills
Lost a few small buds and a few large colas before I got it under control. They tunnel into the stem and leave a pile of white shit. I thought at first it was spider eggs until I noticed a hole. Then I scraped the hole open and there was the worm. The area around where the worm is was swollen. Figuring that out, I was able to tell if they went up or down the stem. That helped to not cut off below more than I had too. And they got a shower with the hose. Major holes I sprayed water hard into it, hopeful that I drowned the sucker. Then I taped it closed. Some I missed I could only see from the bottom up and had to get on the ground under the plants. I was going to use the bkt spray that someone recommended, but I am going to give them a few days to be sure they are gone and don't get a hold again. This started after 2 weeks without rain!!!!!!! I hope others will read this to gain some info so it doesn't happen to them. The plants are right neat to my hibiscus flowers. And those always have the little green worms. I did not spray the flowers because I didn't want to chance the chemical getting on the weed.......all new to me, but I am getting through this!!, thanks for everyone’s help!!!,How bad is the worm infestation?
Are you near MN? What is the breed? The power of manure
Most know I didnt grow this yr...well not on purpose
I was going to weed my boxes and get them ready for next yrs grow when I seen a single plant growing. Has not been watered on purpose or fed even once. I haven't seen it in 2 weeks so when I do I will update with a pic. I call it the lone wolf.
P.s. I cant wait to see the top cola on this puppy
Exactly what I have!!! It was so sad and made me so angry at the same time. After my fit, I cleaned them, cut the wormed ones, gave a shower and just might get the bkt tomorrow.!!!lower nugs starting to swell. Very excited and proud of my first run. Thanks to everyone for the help and knowledge.View attachment 897138
Yea I had to sacrifice a medium sized branch this morning. Wasn't sure what the issue was until now but I knew something wasn't right. Had a weird smell to it as well and the stem was discolored. Glad it was from the bottom anyway. Just hope it doesn't send her into some kinda shock. The branch was a good 10"???Exactly what I have!!! It was so sad and made me so angry at the same time. I hope you were able to save it. I am trying to decide between bkt and Monterey by. I don't want to chance another infestation. But I do believe it is the lack of rain which let the worms get in there. Now I will shower them every couple of days!Yea I had to sacrifice a medium sized branch this morning. I doubt if the water will do much good and might even encourage mold growth. I've tried picking the little bastards off but there's just too many and the small ones go right into the buds and set up shop. You won't even notice until after they damage the plant.I hope you were able to save it. I am trying to decide between bkt and Monterey by. I don't want to chance another infestation. I have cabbage moth. White and yellow fluttering daytime moths. They lay their eggs on the underside of a leaf. Eggs hatch and the little larve spread out and start munching.
Don't know if it would work on other species but I'd give it a go.
Seriously considering sending Monterey a thank you note and will be giving them rave reviews anywhere I can!
I hope someone comes up with a way to eliminate gophers and ground squirrels soon.
that looks like eurasian hemp borer...real bad news. https://webdoc.agsci.colostate.edu/hempinsects/PDFs/Eurasian hemp borer July 2018.pdfThis is the worst area, before I cleaned it up and I did save the cola. Also the worm!!,View attachment 897185View attachment 897186View attachment 897187View attachment 897188

I think you will have to burn your stalks this year...they winter over. And you will have a short window to whack them...they hatch and burrow in...then nothing can get them.HOLY MOLY!!! If you zoom in, you can see that like it's 60/40 amber/clear. The lower flowers are probably more amber. But the last pic is one of the top colas, which maybe could go a week?
It's gotta be tomorrow.
