I'm fairly new to growing and to this forum. I'm on my third grow now, so I understand the basics, but every time I think I have this figured out, a hundred questions pop into my head! I was hoping to tap into other growers knowledge. Right now, I have 3 plants (photoperiod) growing in a 4 x 4 tent. 2 Northern Lights and 1 Jack Herer. They are on day 60 of flower (from 12/12 flip). Got em under a 400W HPS, using FF Trio nutes. All three sprouted on the same day, all are under the exact same regimen. Here's my question: one of the Northern Lights pistils have turned orange (about 70%) as I would expect at this stage, but it's sister is totally white. Not a single orange hair to be found. The top colas are HUGE and frosty as shit, but totally white. All other aspects of all three plants appear to be completely healthy. Does anyone have any thoughts about why this is? With the HPS reddish light its hard to see pictures, and the plants are so huge I don't remove them from the tent, so no pics. Oh, that may be an important factor. They are over 5 feet tall and are pretty close to the light, about 8 to 12 inches for top cola's. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

New as well, on my fourth grow. Work for a guy with plenty of experience and ran into this on our last harvest. Not entirely sure why either, but the solution was to harvest the plants when they looked ready, despite being planted and fed at the same time. We had a Blueberry Gum which grew another two weeks longer than her sisters (even the same pheno). Lighting was the same for all plants as well.

The plants are different organisms so one might behave differently than the other. So even though everything is the same, it's like how human siblings grow differently. I don't think it's anything bigger than that unless there are environmental differences between the two. If they are both getting same nutes, waterings and light, one could just be growing slower than her sister.

My HPS put's out some heat so I have to keep it at least 12 inches away from the tops of the plants. I would be careful that the light doesn't burn your tops.

I have 2 WW doing the same thing at 63 days right now myself and they are doing the exact same thing. One looks like she is about done, the other has big fat white pistils? I've been told chalk it up to diff phenos, and unless they are clones each one is truly on it own internal clock. I'm gonna let her keep going. I'm growing autos so lights aren't an issue with my new grow.
Also more important , how do the trichomes look?!

Honestly, I haven't even checked the trichomes yet. Even the one with "normal" pistil development doesn't look even close to harvest yet. Calyx haven't filled out yet. I like to wait until all of the visual clues point to the end before checking trichomes. On my first 2 grows, I think I talked myself into thinking they were ready when I checked trichomes, when in fact I harvested them both too early (you think I would have learned from the first harvest!) I like a good, solid couch lock stoned high, so I've learned that 10% amber trichomes are not for me. More like 30 to 40% I should think.

Unless you start out with clones, you will usually see some degree of variation between different plants started from seed. The jar of Jack H sitting in front of me didn't get too many orange Pistils, so you can't always get guarantees on what you will get from a seed plant. I let the plants go as long as possible... basically until the plant is losing a ton of fan leaves, the buds are thick and stinky, and the Trichome shading takes place. I don't place too much faith in the Trichome method for determining ripeness, as many strains finish differently, especially Indica VS Sativa. I feel that I get the most flavor in the last two weeks of flowering, in my case about week 10-12. Maybe 12-14 for some Sativas.

I just read a great write up on this. The " couch lock" thing he said is a myth. The chemical change occurring is actually degradation. It's not adding to the high, it's degrading the potency causing the high to change from peak potency to something less. Thc to CBN, it's the cbn that works as a sedative. So the couch lock seems to be actually the degration of thc to cbn.

Jimster....thanks for the info. There's so much different info out there on the internet, it's hard to sort through all of it sometimes! That's why I joined this forum. I want to hear from people who ACTUALLY grow it. BTW, I'm a huge Dead fan and love your icon. Is there any way I can get that for like a screen saver or something. Really cool. Thnks.

Sorry for the delayed response. I was out of town. I have read the same about amber trichomes indicating a degradation of the THC. I guess from what I've read, the other chemicals that it degrades into balance the high, or something to that affect. All I know is, on my first 2 harvests, I (foolishly) chopped with less than 10% amber, and it wasn't strong enough for me. I'm an old guy, been smokin a long time and probably have a tolerance built up! I like to get ripped. Or as my wife says "stupid"! I've seen other posts where growers say to experiment with the trichomes at different stages when you harvest to see what affect you like, so I think I will try that this time around. Would love to hear other growers thoughts on this subject, since the information on the web tends to run the gamut from all cloudy, no amber to half cloudy, half amber.

I hear you about all the info out there on the web. It's overwhelming at times when you are looking for a direct answer. Like you I've heard when to cut from half and half cloudy to all cloudy who cares about Amber, to must have at least 10%+ amber trichomes. I keep looking through my loupe and I'm on the fence.
Here's a few of two small Critcal 2.0xl (Garden of Green Seeds) that are on day 66 . The first 3 pics are one and the next three are plant 2. Tell me what you think. Very little Amber, mostly cloudy, yet I see what looks like new pistils on top of a couple of the buds? And like you said earlier, mine like yours have completely different pistil colors change amounts. This plant was supposed to be a fast finisher.
