Medical Grow – Coco, 1200w. [Himalayan Gold & OG Kush]

Got a good amount of main colas on the himalayan gold. Since its my first grow yield expectation is quite low, my main priority is just good product.

HT~ was going to comment on that, but you beat me too it! Yeah, I see the ridging & raised leaf edges too... along w some very minor curling to start up top...

The raised leaf fringes are the heat... a little too warm for them, maybe drop them by 2-4F. The ridging is also slightly tied to this... too hot = drink more water/less nutes. I liken it to taking a drink of a salt rimmed margarita while walking through the middle of a desert... that margarita is only going to dehydrate you faster. Similar type of thing w high heat & nute loads for the plants. A good tip I got was to feed a lower strength, but more frequently during these events.

The slight beginning of the curl... this is my understanding... is too much N during the transition. Usually if I don't back off the N during week 2, I get this. Hope this helps, but would like confirmation on this last point by another if possible... RJ?

Peace brother!

it could be too much of something, or too little of something. i had a similar looking problem with ridges etc. and my ph was too high, was goin up to 7-7.5 (in soiless) once i dropped it back to 6.2 it evened out. i thought it was a Nitrogen or mg problem at first so good thing i didnt hit with more nutes. nice canopy though; crazy how much lolipopped you did em though, are you netting them up to hold those 'soon to be heavy colas up?

I will surely flush them, however since my nutes are organic according to the manufacturer flushing isn't necessary.

Organic or not im almost positive to flush anyways.. it helps with taste, smell and doesnt turn all black when you smoke it. your girls are looking good. did you fim or top your plants and is the HG from greenhouse seeds? that plant might take a few weeks longer then the OG to finish.

Thank you so much GH, i will take care of this matter as you said.

Hey bro, welcome to my journal, thanks for dropping by and giving your input. Its always appreciated.

I will keep what you said in mind and flush for sure.

The Himalayan Gold seeds I have came from Amsterdam via a friend of a friend six years ago. The criteria for choosing the seeds was high potency along with high yield. Anyhow I received the clones from the friend who got the seeds, so I am not too sure about the pheno. I have smoke the product from these clones but it was grown without much care, and a lot of mistakes such as pH of 4. I really want to bring the potential out of the gold.

As for the current greenhouse himalayan gold seeds they are feminized and I have read on forums that they have a tendency to cross dress.

Day 7 Flowering Picture Update

All is well, the girls in the smart pots were extra thirsty. I have 3 in 5 gallon smart pots and 3 in 3 gallon 10 in sq containers, this will be an experiment to see how much better is the smart pot.

The OG's leaf curling has gotten better, i have kicked it down to 1.7 EC.

The last picture is of the first clone I took 21 days ago. Its a baby gold, ready to go in coco.

Great thread so far, HT! I cant believe this is your first grow! You are THE Newb extraordinare! Very nice work, Brother, you've definitely done your homework! Im impressed. If all goes as well in flower, you will have one nice haul for the New Year!

Wanted to add, if you keep having issues with heat, you may want to remove the CFLS. Your call tho. Was just thinking you may want to take into consideration the diminished yields if you are dealing with high heat through the entire flowering cycle. If heat isnt an issue, then keep doin what you do.
I just figured, The 2 600w you are currently using should be more than enough light since you are growing in this SOG fashion, and lower canopies have been trimmed out.
Im subscribed to this one man. Keep it up brother! Looking great!

Welcome aboard brother, thank you so much for your compliments bro. I must confess that I have been reading for a few hours everyday for a good 4-5 weeks now. I think being on forums is probably the most important when it comes to tackling the problems immediately.

As for the leaf curling I backed of on the nutes, and raised the cfl just a tad bit. Its getting better. Since it's winter time, I have a lot of cool air coming in the grow area so i think heat won't be an issue for the next few cold months.

Thanks a lot for your input, keep it coming bro.

I am really happy that heat isn't an issue since I have the OG in the corner and I am really looking forward to that since it was some of the best smoke I ever had was from their OG Mom. So I want to do whatever to get the max yield on the OG. The Gold yield I am not worried about since its a guaranteed high yielder unlike the OG.

Same philosophy as you brother! ;-))

Grow for quality... we're not the commercial schwag pumpers here!!!

Day 8 Flowering Picture Update

Hope everyone is well. My back has been in insane pain, and money is so tight that i cannot even afford proper medication.

Anyways my medicine is growing well, saw mini buds on day 8 of flowering. Super excited to see these all over the place.

Himalayan Gold is streching way more than OG, its interesting that the HG right under the 600s is stretching the most, I thought initially that it would be the outer canopy that will stretch more.

Still experiencing leaf curling on the OG. its eating way less than the HG too. have moved the lights a bit higher. The good thing is that the curling is only on the older leaves none of the new ones have the edges curling.

Good to know bro, I am growing only for my self. I have a really bad back so I would love to just have a few grows in a year to have good medicine year round.

This first run, my goal is strictly quality.

since it's my first time i don't really know what to expect, since the HG isn't one of the more popular strains these days, there aren't many other grow logs.

So i will just go with the flow, see which colas need support and then just macgyver something to support them.

sorry to hear your back is hurting - all this grow room renovations is killing mine - oh well the payoff will be sweet!

room is looking good though, keep it growing!

Hey fellows, sorry for the late update. My back has been in some really back pain. I cannot afford any medication right now so i am only icing my back. Hopefully after this grow I will be good for a good bit.

Two weeks flowering picture update

All is well, the OG is still dealing with some leaf curling. I have even removed the extra CFLs to see if it helps but not much.

Himalayan Gold is STRETCHING like no tomorrow. I am almost worried, it has doubled in the first two weeks. The stems have gotten super thick.

Picture 1 & 2
One of the stalks stretched so much that it caught up to the light in a few hours after I moved the light up, unfortunately due to it be so close to the light it seems to have been burnt. Let me know how bad u think it is. Should i just cut the burnt area off or let it go.

Picture 3 & 4
on very few of the big HG fan leaves there seems to be some discoloration. I have seen this sort of discoloration late in flowering but not this early. Can anyone give me some input

Rest of the pictures for pleasure.

Note that the plants don't look that good in pics, because the HPS is so yellow, I will take some pics of the girls right before the lights turn on to catch the sleeping beauties.

I been learning many things from my first grow, no matter how much research i do, there is always more to learn. I didn't expect some of the colas to just take off, while other grow normally, the way HG is growing, it seems there might be some big colas if i get lucky. and i might actually run out of space, which is going to be tough to deal with.

Here are some more pictures of discoloration, I would greatly appreciate any help on this, the leave still look quite stiff and healthy.

I also took a close up of on of the HG buds, but the stupid camera ended up focusing on the leaves instead the bud. But I am very happy to see trichromes forming in the end of two weeks.

The HG flowers are swelling up much quicker than the OG.

Day 17 Flowering Picture Update

Thank you so much GroHi and RollnJ for their input. These guys have been helping me through the beginning. Cheers Mates.

Here is a picture of the discolored leaf.

I fed the girls 100 % dose of "Sweet (Grape)" from Botanicare. Before I was giving them 75% dose of sweet. That stuff has Mg in it, if that doesn't help I will get some cal-mag. I will be going to 2.3 EC from 2.0 shortly so I am sure that will help.

Also seems the OG is way more heat sensitive than the Gold, the OG isn't even directly under the light like HG and its still trippin from the heat.
