So I've got two failed attempts at growing. I've tried just soil. Failed. Soil plus perlite. It went better but I still killed my plants. I see alot of people using coco so I'm wondering if it is easier to grow with. Any advice is appreciated.

soil is much more forgiving than coco.

normally you can grow in soil without the need to monitor pH and ec.

a good soil will allow to bring the plant to grow healthy and vigorous for 3-6 weeks without any real need for nutrients so usually just watering once with water once every 4-7 days will do the job depending plant stage.

Ok. My second try went better but i neem and light burned them and my seeds were autos and I didn't know it. The perlite soil mix worked well I watered like every 7 8 days. My first try was in straight soil and I overwatered.

i just went through your other post.

sure thing that's not how 5 weeks old plant should look. definetly stunt.
i don't think they were light burned
it's usually not advised to use pesticide on plant too small, you usually prefer for the plant to be noticeably bigger to treat.

this is what's 5 week old plant since germinating the seed should look:

nothing special just tap water every 6-7 days

Two of them looked pretty good until I fucked them up. Two stayed little and grew slower. Well this time I got better everything so it should go better. Might try diamacious earth or whatever it's called. This dude told me it helps with bugs.

When you say soil, Is that garden soil or a potting mix from the store?
What have you been feeding you plants?

What do you have for a light. Can you adjust the brightness?
How far above the top of your plants?

City water, Well water, rain water?
What ever else you can think of?

It's a organic soil I got from Walmart. Back to the roots was the brand. I mixed in 1/3 perlite.I only gave them water every seven or eight days. I have fox farm grow big to use but never did because the soil and the perlite both had nutrients. I had a shitty light I bought when I didn't know anything about leds. I got 2 phlizon lights now. I bought a 240 watt light and the company sent me a 100watt light for free or by mistake. I had the shitty 35watt light 18 inches above the plants. Than I moved it to less than 12 inches trying to get a higher ppfd. Both the phlizon lights have dimmers. I used bottled drinking water purified by reverse osmosis. The seeds were autos I guess. I sprayed them with neem oil because fruit flies were on my plants. I sprayed them in the morning and put the lights on them. The weak light was stronger than I thought. Burned the bottom big leaves than they died. I pulled them off when they dried all the way out. Someone told me they were small for 5 weeks old. Two grew faster and bigger than the other two but seemed totally fine until i needed them.

Hi, I hear your troubles. I've been growing 25+ years, just as a back ground, I hate that potting soil shit it kills seedlings being too hot. I use straight Promix that come in 3.8 cu/ft compressed bales $40 each and perlite. PM comes with 17- 22% I think it is perlite I used to add 15 % more to get my mix to 33%ish but I found my soil still compacted so I've gone to a 40% mix. it makes transplanting a bitch but that's another story.

You don't need much light in veg I use t5 fluorescent right up to flowering. I'd keep that light 36" above if you can't control the intensity. If you can get it down to 20% 2ft away.

In my soil and in solo cups once the seed is up above ground at 78f it will need water again in 4-5 days the first water after that 3 -4 days as she grows. You can't over water,, over watering is not watering too much its watering too often. if your soil is hot you're cooking the poor thing on each water.

RO water is stripped of it minerals and you need to provide everything the plant requires, micro nutrients included. Spring water would be better and whats wrong with your house water? & neem oil because of fruit flies? with lights on too I'd guess, did you emulsify the oil with baby soap?..........

There are some great "seed to harvest" videos on YouTube, that can help new growers get through their first run. The one I usually recommend for synthetic nutrients in soil is "The Complete Beginners Guide to Growing Cannabis" from Welcome to the Growtent. There are other good ones, depending on your system. Mr. Canucks and Build-a-Soil are great for organic. Bill Ward is great for autos. Dawgo the Hutt and Dr. MJ Coco have good info for coco. Those are just some channels I like. There are lots of good ones.

if you are using the perlite from walmart just know it often has miricle grow time release fertilzer mixed in with it. Go to lowes instead and get just straight perilite. That back to roots is not great either. Walmart will often carry Pro mix, that is a way better soil but will need nutrients mixed in. You can get a bag of earthworm castings to get you started

not to be rude but you can have the best of everything but if you do not slow down and do what the plants want and need you will still not have a good outcome. There is no rushing things, your plants will dictate.. your bug issue was related to your watering issue, if you learn proper watering (not being rude) you will see less issue especially with the fungus gnats you said was the issue, you can also use cinnamon (much safer for you than diatomaceous earth) but again, proper watering you will not have bug issues.

No man I googled how to stop fruit flies. Neem oil was first thing I seen that worked.
Bought captain something neem oil it said to apply generously in the morning. Yeah I heard about soil being to hot but I couldn't find anything without nutrients in my area. I went with this soil because it said organic. I live in a small town in northern Minnesota.I didn't know shit but have since learned how to read the back of bag. Is this too hot. Also I have well water. Google said to not use hard water. And also thanks for the help man. I really know nothing. I'm grateful for anytime you give this.

No bro it just says enriched with miracle gro plant food. Ammoniacal nitrogen 0.035%
Nitrate nitrogen same percent.

Damn I didn't think of that. Google keeps handing me losses. I tried reddit because Google search kept taking me there. But people just want to talk shit on there. I didn't find much help there. This app is awesome so far.

Is this all soil? I keep hearing that I should switch to coco but, I get decent grows in soil. I am just looking for amazing grows. I don't know what I have I guess. I think it's time to start showing some pictures.
