Does anyone else feel that Dispensary Cannabis is just Bad quality?

I feel you on that. Dispensary bud in NY can be such a letdown. Overpriced and dry as the desert, with no aroma to speak of. I m supporting local growers. I grow my own stuff from Herbies seeds, nothing beats the freshness of your own buds

Accurate for NYS, homegrown has no equivalent if you are skilled

I only have two experiences (both with prerolls so take that for what it's worth).

Denver: I think I probably I got THCA as I'm guessing that's what their recreational menu consists of (store was the Green Dragon) or it was just super dry. Not a very pleasant smoke but I got high off my rocker. I have to include that we got to the store some 15 minutes before closing time so I hurried up with my choices to not inconvenience the staff too much.

LA: I paid about $20 for a fancy, kief-coated, diamond infused joint on recommendation from my budtender. That was a pleasant smoke (I took it easy with it and smoked it over the course of three days). Got it at Medmen but I doubt it was their house brand.

Stories of long lines at dispensaries kept me from trying my luck in Montreal back in 2019. Another visit is due ...

Edit: just to add that for both cases I didn't get blown away by aroma or taste.

The problem we have around here is the state border stores can be sus as hell
Anything along the line has to be inspected
Then the corruption has to be dealt with when purchasing
In Southern Maine they load up on dregs from the mid state and northern growers
Anything not meeting the standards of certain growers gets packaged and sold to dispensaries in the southern part where they have too many tourists
Same thing in other states around here, corruption!
Watch out for dispos with family members employed, if you find out or know this, stay clear

Did a bud of super skunk from my medical dispo with a fellow patient
Grows his own but gave the skunk an almost thumbs up
Its the cure that suffers commercially
He said another two weeks and it would be spot on for flavor and harshness
Pleasantly surprised by the potency and actually hits me up for LA Kush cake when he runs low prior to harvest
But his OG Kush is a wrecking ball and has a different high that hits you hard off a ball vape
There is a big difference between homegrown and commercial!!
To newbies buying medically, don't go by or believe the numbers on the package
Go by the terpenes profile and if you get a chance try a 16% landrace cultivar
Panama red in the early evening is the best experience I've ever had, and I'm A kush man

In order to be blown away by aroma and taste cannabis has to be dried, cured and stored properly. Otherwise it's only a dried weed.

New batch of infused simple syrup
About 4500mg out of 5000 available (allegedly)
The dispo claims 1000mg per syringe and I put 5 into the syrup
Some loss on the mixing head, funnel and spatula
The 500mg loss is conservative, probably less
Acceptable at $18 (US)
I was giving the syringes 750mg A syringe before my inquiry
Less than a teaspoon will be a dose

Green Dragon was the 1st dispensary that I went to. If I can remember I bought
Sour Patch Kids
The other 2 I candy remember.
I don't burn...it all tastes like shit. So I vape.
Definitely wasn't dry. All tasted great and I got ripped.
My lady friend from Colorado Springs gets the medical grade. She got me 4 different qtr ounces. $60 total. That stuff was. Light me up and leave me alone

Hmm. I believe that dispensary only grow weed so good for two reasons.
Cost effectiveness
Liability
Cost is self explanatory
Liability in potency. I buy in MI. I have bought 32% weed and did nothing. Knock out, one hit and quit is not even available or anything close.
Looks like that is left up to people like us.
Dispensary's are pretty much the same except for prices. Pay attention to the grower if you you like what you get. Not the dispensary.

I live in southern ca I can get anything from good to terrible.

Dispensary weed has a cycle. 8 weeks is the usual. Not all plants finish in this time. So this commercial cycle, doesn't allow for full term terpene development. Also, most dispo plants are salt based nutrient fed plants. The terpene development can only go so far with this style of growing. Many homegrown are using living soil/super soil. This soil life creates a more sophisticated terpene development. The taste is so much more. And the effect. Dispo weed is a shallow buzz. Not much depth. And very short. You need to resmoke an hour later. Good homegrown will make you forget about that joint for 3+ hours! Lol . I think it will take some time, but i believe living soil weed will have its own shelf at your local dispo. I am seeing a couple brands here in michigan, but no super kind smoke yet.....

Fortunately/unfortunately?

Dispensaries are not a thing where I live.

I have to grow my own. With the help from this form, I can grow pretty damn good shit

I don’t hear people that can’t grow for whatever reason complaining much!

There’s definitely lower end product you can tell was mass produced with one thing in mind. I have had the chance to smoke some really fire indoor but the cost is freaking ridiculous!

Nutty, doughy, earthy, dank, zaza, the kids today always use confusing words to describe their pesticides in a positive light. Imagine if a litre of cola tasted like pickles instead of cola. You'd probably be worried that you'd been poisoned or fucked with in some way.

Not sure why these kids today think "desert weed" would be described by raw ingredients. All I smell is neem, bacillus, spinosad, zerotol ,organocide, etc. I hear from the kids about all this candy weed at the weed store. None of it tastes like candy weed, or even like weed, at all. Top shelf is usually worse than bottom shelf, all smells like pk booster and botanical terp sprays, not weed.


Thanks to shitty growers in states like California Arizona Colorado and Oklahoma, who spend more effort shilling their nasty thca hemp online, all the retarded kids today think this nasty shit is legit, and that high price home grown is laced with coke and flavored with sugar.

I have tried different dispensaries in NY and they all seem to have the same low quality stuff. Its harsh, dry and even tho they claim "This is going to be the best and most earthy flavored" its the same disappointment. I dont smoke for just the high I smoke for the experience. I like a good earthy and / or terpenes flavor. Thats how I know its quality. I typically use a little glass pipe (for anyone curious)
Most of the time I go to a trap house which used to get stuff from California which was amazing but since its been legalized they seem to be buying locally and its hit and miss.
So a couple days ago I decided to try again since a dispensary is alot closer. I spent way too much money for bud thats so harsh and tastes like swag. Had to go to Trap tonight and get some wax to make it taste ok but the bud is so harsh I take one little hit and can barely hold it and always cough after. It reminds me of being a kid when weed was a lot hard to find.
That was 23 years ago tho lol.
Edit** I will say Mass dispensaries were better than NY but not as good as bud from Cali
