So my last crop I had to harvest a few days early because I spotted some spider mite damage, indicating a good amount of spidermites. After harvesting, I wiped the whole tent down with first 70% isopropyl alcohol, then with a spider mite spray I got off amazon that claims is safe to use even days before harvest, though I don’t know how much I trust that. I’m gonna give everything one more spray and wipe of alcohol, will this be enough to not have them hop on my new plants when I start them in a few weeks? I did the same with my smaller tent even though I didn’t use it at all my last grow, but those things get everywhere. I cleaned the area I have everything set up aswell, but will this be enough? Here’s a pic of the spray

bump..
i've asked the same question and had no response.
seems like people are scared to even talk about spider mites
lol
What I did was enough to not get them back, but I took a few weeks off of growing anything. Isopropyl alcohol should be enough if you wipe absolutely everything down (even outside your tent)

Im not a fan of spraying things in flower. But I will nuke the F out everything in veg with captains jacks dead bug brew. Used it twice my last run at the beginning of vegging because of mites and that shit works amazingly.

I hate getting bugs! And haven't had issues with them in years. In the event I get them. One,,, somebody's in big trouble for bringing them or mold mildew in. I don't spend one second trying to save plants from any infestation of any type. I wrap, bag them up and get them out. Don't save the dirt or grow media. Will save the bags, pots and hardware. But if it's organic it's history. Then I bleach nuke and Everclear nuke everything. I go full beast mode. Everything gets nuked inside and out. And then wiped down repeatedly with water as hot as I can stand it with scuba gloves on.

Rosemary, clove and peppermint oils? Hmm... I wonder how well it goes with lamb chops. 🤔

little pricks are still in my grow shed. chopped and drying in the shed now and am spraying insecticidal soap on walls and floor every day.
once dried and out of the shed i'll spray every surface every 2 days. also i just sealed up intake and exhaust vents and am dumping 90/10 co2/argon in the shed. will wait 15 minutes then shut the tank off. then redo everyday until tank is empty.
might as well spray with iso alcohol when everything else is done also.

any thoughts?

Captain jacks dead bug solution. I dont spray it on flowering plants though, or at least more than a quarter of the way into flower (that’s just my own thing I made up) I’ve used it a few times (reactive to a situation) on separate occasions and it works very well.✌️

Hang a hot shot in there for a week or so before you plant anything. It will kill everything.

Edit...ipa and a break will kill the cycle.
Apparently mites can lives without food for a year?
I've caught enough mites to view under a microscope and left them to die there's no way they're alive they dry out and disintegrate?

Good luck 🤞

Dude, I'm living it too. Had the little fucks whipped so I thought. I'm keeping my tent vacant for about the same and had no problem until 7-10 days early. I became damn near anal about not touching or being close but they reappear

yeah I have an old old house with hardwood floors and gaps galore. I have read the reply "once you got them you're fucked forever, the best you can do is control them" I dunno but I may look at an aerosol bomb and let the room sit before I use a HEPA vac? Frustrating

Get a hot shot. They sell them at Home Depot run them a couple weeks between grows. It will kill everything.

I've tried many things against spider mites. The one that works best for me is AgroMagen GrowSafe.
yes, I used it but I was really hesitant once they're in flower. Even isolating an affected leaf and spraying it without hitting buds was only partially effective. You can never get them all and they just keep multiplying. I had pretty good success with one plant that was getting close to infestation by taking it on the deck and using the mister setting on a hose nozzle and putting it right up to the bottoms of leaves. Doing that a couple times a week got me a harvest at least. #oldchucky shared a tip about dunking the entire plant's foliage in a barrel of water for a few minutes (not root ball). Using those two methods keep them at bay but neither eradicated them completely.

Must be bad this year, I am dealing with them as well for the first time. I have about 2-3 weeks left on last crop then I am going to put the tents in the backyard for a couple days and bleach my entire room. As long as it stays -0 anything in the tents will freeze and die. I'm also getting rid of all medium and changing to DWC.

I put DE on Soil, Soap on stems and ordered 200 Assassins. Sadly they come young and needed about a week to mature, I wasted my money on them I think. I had to remove the DE and wash the stems before adding them to the mix. I check young thin leaves and remove any with early signs of stippling. I usually find the adults hanging out on the thinner leaves of 3. Any that have been fed on more frequently tend to have eggs. so I remove them.

Once I harvest I will freeze the buds for 48hrs and after they thaw a bit I spray them with an electric air blower. Sadly this does lower potency a little but I inspected flowers from the other tent with a 1600x microscope when I harvested and seen a little bastard eating the bud.

No way I am going to deal with these things again. Harshen my buzz man

Good luck!

Once in flower the only thing I would use is predator mites.

In an empty tent. Get some pyrethrin or pyrethrum spray, it's an insecticide derived from chrysanthemums. With no plants in the tent, spray everything, your tools, your soil (I would suggest tossing the soil and getting fresh soil), your watering cans, lights (if they are rated for wetness) everything! Wait a week, do it again. Make sure to get into every nook and cranny in the tent. You can follow it up in a few days with an isopropyl alcohol wipedown. That's the only way I've ever defeated "The Borg!"

I can't remember if I used GrowSafe during flowering. There are some safe things that can be used. Alcohol and hydrogen peroxide evaporate, but they can be less than effective. I only sprayed GrowSafe twice and have not seen a spider mite since.

After fighting spider mites a few times, one conclusion I've come to is a good sprayer is a must have. In particular, it should have a nozzle that can spray upward. The key is to get the substance on to the bottom the leaves, which can be difficult.
