My first attempt at growing and I need help - what's wrong with my plant?!?!?

UPDATE: Day 34 since light change. Tomorrow will be the last day of week 5.

Things are going fairly well. I did go a little hot on the feeding but have watered twice and fed again at 1/2 strength to make sure the flowering nutes were there and available.

She has started to become quite pungent. So far I am very happy with my ventilation set up - it is helping to keep the temps and humidity stable and where I want them and there is no smell at all until I open the tent. So far so good!

I did decide to relocate the driver for my light (Mars FC3000 EVO) outside of the tent to help keep the temps down during lights on. So far it seems to have dropped the lights on temps by about 4 degrees F. It's crazy how much just moving the driver opened up the top of the tent - visually anyway. When I was re-routing wires and what-not, I took the opportunity to wipe everything in the tent down and just get it spotless to hopefully avoid any problems as I go later into flower.

I did get an opportunity to talk to the grower that I got the clone from. I showed him some of my pics and he was proud of me! LOL The primary question that I had for him was around the "average" flowering time for this cut. He did say that it is a 10 week and maybe a little longer. He said if it will take it, let it go to 12 weeks and "it will be worth the wait". So 10 weeks would put me at 12/29 and 12 weeks would put me at 1/12. I've at least got a rough estimate of my target!

I do have my light now turned all of the way up....100% and it is currently 28" from the top of the canopy. Do I just gradually lower the light a little until I see signs that she doesn't like it? It's kind of fun to have her running wide open for the first time!

(After reading all of the posts here about Spider Farmer....I find my self lusting after a new SE5000 to go in my 39x39 tent. BUT, I could move my Mars 300W into my 32x32 tent!)

Really enjoying watching her change through the flowering process. And just like always, I want to give thanks to this place for all of the information being shared to help us newbies!

Cleaned up tent with the driver relocated - ready for the 2nd half of flower!

Update: Day 40 of flower....and I am getting a little concerned!
Strain: Deathstar

First off, it has been a rough week. My wife got a shitty diagnosis this week and I have not had any desire to dick around with my plant(s)...but she yelled at me and I do need the distraction....so here I am.

Today is day 40 of flower and I am afraid that I am going to let this thing spiral out of control.

She is still showing the signs of me getting a little frisky with the feed recently, but I watered again today, just RO water. 1 gallon in the 5 gallon fabric pot led to a decent amount of run off. I checked the PH and it was 6.7 so I think I am good there. The PPM of the runoff was 630, so I think I am ok there as well. At the next watering (2 days) I will give a 1/2 recommended dose of the FF nutrients and maybe a little bit of molasses as well.

The branches that go off horizontal are really starting to droop with the weight of the buds. I guess that is a good thing, but with an estimated 4 to 6 weeks left to go, I expect it to get worse. I guess if I have to, I can tie them up somehow. This is a good learning for the future I guess.

Overall, the plant just looks "different".... I don't know if it is normal and just part of the flowering process...

The light is currently 25" from the canopy and I have it at 80%. With the recent changes that I have seen, I did not want to lower or increase the light intensity

Aside from the burnt fan leaf tips and a few leaves that have it on the sides of the fingers, I have one leave on the plant that is changing color, like a maple leaf in the fall. Again, this might be normal or just an isolated leaf dying off, but this branch is the one that some of the leaves have edge burn from an overfeed.... The buds seem to be continuing to fill out, so I am hoping things are progressing as normal. They are building some trichomes as well.

The smell is interesting. Earlier this week the smell was VERY strong and smelled like weed. It has died down again later in the week, but it is interesting how it fluctuates.

I welcome any and all feedback! This is my first attempt and I would really like to be able to make it to the end of the process!

damn near nailed the perfect “just the tip” burn lol. Maybe just water for a couple waterings? I loaded my soil with my current run with too much nitrogen and was advised to just water for a couple. I did that and continued two more waterings with just water to make sure. You’re way further along though from where my plants were when I did that.

Do you think the light could be a little too much? ( just spitballin I don’t know either way)

It’s still all looking badass though!

Thanks Bear! Yeah, after I posted my update, I saw another post where the Captain posted and suggest that grower turn the light down... Even though it's lights out right now, I went up and turned it down more. LOL I think I will stick with another round of just RO water when she is ready and then I can check runoff again.

Thanks brother!!!

Heck yeah man no problem! It’s cool you were able to come across a solution from cruising the Farm! I see capt often suggesting that : ) I raised my lights a few days ago lol. Still haven’t learned my lesson 🤣

@BearWater. True...but the farm giveth....and the farm taketh. The reason I kept increasing the light was I was seeing all of the badass plants being posted here, so I ran in there and stomped on the skinny pedal! 😎
hammer down! you wont ever find the edge if you don’t push it! : ) I’m with you on the skinny pedal! 🤘

Alright. Quick update for Friday night.

I couldn't sleep last night so I was reading posts on here... and I am also gonna follow the advice of our dear @Captspaulding !!!

First, I'll take my head out of my rear end and STOP always wanting to be fucking around with the plant. Second, I raised my light back up to 30" from the canopy and I turned it down to 70%.... Right where it was before I dropped the light and started turning it up/pissing her off.

Conditions in the grow room and tent were even improved with just turning the light down. Temp was maxing out at 74 degrees in the tent. (I did leave a window cracked in the room and it was in the 20's today....so that helped! LOL)

Capt.... Thank you for all of the knowledge that you are willing to sling around here, regardless if we listen to you or not. The farm should sell those little rubber bracelets with "WWCD" on them, every time I get the urge to change something....look at my wrist and ask myself What would the Capt do???

Hopefully I didn't eff her up!!!

So this is my first attempt at growing and I am having a blast....until recently...

Over the past couple of days, I have noticed that new growth leaves, the tips are rolled up - or rolled in on themselves. They look kind of crispy, but they aren't. I am wondering if this is maybe a temperature issue? (Hell, it could be completely normal for new leaves, but I have no clue and can't really find anything online that looks like my "issue")

A little about my set up... Currently in a Mars Hydro 32x32x63 tent under a TS1000 LED. The light is currently at about 60% and I have it about 20 inches from the top of the plant. It is in Happy Frog soil and this plant is from a clone that was cut on 8/10. Aside from the new leaves being curled up, I think it is doing well and it has been growing like crazy.

The reason that I questioned the temperature is because my tent is currently in our finished basement....but it is cold down there. During the day my tent temps are in the low 70's and most of the time it hits a high of 72 or 73 with the light on. During lights out I am sure it is getting down into the mid 60's. My humidity is set right now at 63%.

I do have a fan that has been lightly moving the leaves, so I don't think that it is a wind/fan issue, but maybe with the low temps, etc....it makes it worse?

I tried to take good pics of the leaves in question, but here are some pics. If anyone has any suggestions/ideas/advice I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you!!!!

Print a PPFD/DLI chart for photos (also and auto version). There are tables both with and without CO2. Get yourself the Photone app and buy a diffuser. Don’t always be eager to go with the highest possible amount of light, watch the plant. Check your manufacturer’s distance recommendations for the various growth stages. It takes a few grows but you’ll get a feel for it after a few grows.

In the meantime, some of my gnarly plants on my first grow surprised me. They can take a lot and can be pretty forgiving.

Update - Today is the end of week 7 or day 49 since the light change, so tomorrow will be day one of week 8. I am expecting at least 3 more weeks, but I will be patient.

The leaf color change is continuing on the fan leaves, so I am trying not to panic and just let her do her thing. The buds seem to be starting to fill in nicely and they are getting nice and frosty looking.

I am happy with the environment I've been able to run in my grow room. In the 39x39 flower tent, with the 300W light at 30" and set at 70% the lights on temps are maxing out around 75 degrees and the night time temps are getting down around 65. I will play around with cooler night time temps this week - I'd like to get her closer to 60 for the lows over the next week or so. Keeping night time humidity in the 40's and daytime is going up to around 53% to keep VPD in range. The fans are circulating air and I have my extraction fan running constant on "1" and it kicks up to "7" when I need to dump humidity.

Given how low the humidity has been lately, I am looking at humidifiers for my "lung room" to prepare for the chop and dry.

I am still following the FF Trio soil feeding schedule and I am running about 40% of the recommended dose and she is drinking every 2 to 3 days.

I tried to take some "cool" pics of the plant. If you all see anything that is "out of whack" or that I need to address, please let me know as I am all ears!

Here is the full plant view and showing the changing fan leaves. I am hoping that this is just normal "fade" but if you guys think something else, holla at me!

I picked up some plant/wire ties today and decided for the 1st day of week 8 that I will try to correct some of the sagging branches. The buds are starting to get some weight to them. When I was securing branches, every time I bumped a bud, it was real sticky and stinky!

This should help with light to the buds and I tried to create airspace between the buds as well as I could.

Assuming that I make it to the finish, I am hoping to get a couple ounces of my first homegrown to try out!

Building some frost

Ok, so today was day 53 since light change for my Death Star clone.

I've noticed that the buds are starting to "puff out" a bit and the frost is continuing to build. I did also notice this week that there is a TON of amber trichomes on the leaves. As far as I can tell the buds are still clear. Given the strain, I am expecting a 10-12 week flowering time...so somewhere between 1/4 and 1/18. I am just really hoping that I get her to the end and actually get to taker her for a spin...FINALLY!

Still very happy with my ventilation set up. There is zero smell in the house unless I open the tent with the "lung room" door open. Otherwise it is all vented outside.

I've been lucky and able to keep the temps and humidity within range so far, but I will be picking up a humidifier and also a dehumidifier. I want to make sure that I have more control once it comes time to chop and let her hang for a bit.

I have not updated on "rerun"....her clone, but she is doing wonderful and given that I am going to have to veg her for about another 4 weeks....she is gonna be a big one! I am really finding the benefit of my "second grow" being a clone from my first plant. I am picking up on a lot more of what she is trying to tell me. At this point I am considering scrogging her as soon as it is her turn in the flower tent.... but I've got time for that later!

Day 56 since light change....today is the end of week 8. I am guessing another 2 to 4 weeks based on what the grower that I got the Deathstar clone from told me.

I am going to need to tie up some more of the floppy buds tonight before the lights go out. Her clone is going in as soon as this one is finished, she is going to get the nets for sure. It's all starting to make sense! LOL

I checked runoff after the last watering and the ppm was down in the 500's. I will water/feed with about a 35-40% rate tomorrow morning.

The fan leaves that are fading/dying - should I leave them or pluck them? I didn't want to screw up either way.

I have the light at 30" from the canopy and the 300W light it as 65-70%. (previously got too close and too strong)

I have been feeling way less optimistic about getting any yield out of my first grow...and it was stressing me out. To remedy that, I got myself a Christmas present and hit the dispo and got 8 different strains to try out! LOL Now that relieves the pressure in more way than one. Hopefully its some decent quality stuff, but I can't wait to compare it to a homegrow.

Any suggestions or if I am missing anything obvious, slap me around a little. I'm slow, but I can learn! ;-)

I figured that I would take a minute to put the lid on my first grow.

First, I want to thank this place and the folks that are willing to sit here and see each wave of newbies with our questions...but you still seek out opportunities to help. Thank you.

Second, I think documenting a "journal" should be step #1 for new growers. I went back and read my journey from the start. What a blast looking at the pics, seeing the progress...and the mistakes. I ended up having the chop earlier than I wanted to because the plant was eating itself. By reading through my grow, I can see a much clearer view of the series of mistakes that I made that just compounded the issues. (cranking light, lowering height of light, power feeding her...then chasing all of the possibilities of "what went wrong", and then underfed/didn't feed her while I was tripping over my own pecker) Would have loved to get another week or two, but I got her to harvest.

I chopped at 6:00 am on 12/31. Hung her up whole in the tent, got everything set as best I could for drying and it started. I struggled to keep enough humidity in my room, but mostly was around 55%.

She dried for 6.75 days before I had to process. Humidity in the room was dropping into the 40's and I didn't want to dry it out too much. I was pretty bummed because it smelled like lawn clippings. It's miserably cold outside and I didn't want to do this outside....plus it smells like mowed lawn anyway.... so I figured I would just trim in up right there in my cozy grow room (extra bedroom). As soon as I started trimming....holy shit!!! I am shocked that my wife didn't kill me!

Because I was worried that I over dried it, I decided to trim it up, get it in glass jars with a meter in each one to find out where the humidity level lands. It took me WAY longer than I thought it would for just the one plant. Over three hours from start to closing the last jar.

I had no idea what to expect in regards to yield. I was just hoping to get something enjoyable to smoke and if I got an ounce or two, I would call it a success. I ended up with a total of 121.4 grams or 4.28 oz.

Humidity after the first day in all 5 of the jars was 62% and 63%. I did some reading and it sounds like there does need to be some air exchange while curing, so I am daily "burping" them, but just opening long enough to lightly roll the buds around in the jars to unstick them and make sure I dont get overly wet pockets, etc. Today is day three and all 5 jars are still reading 62%. I will keep daily burping to make sure the humidity doesn't drop too much. I guess I will shot for a target of 60% to finish out the cure? Since I started them in the jars, I figured I would try jar curing first and then I will use the grove bags on my next plant.

Thanks again everybody, and here are some "final" pics!

Night before cutting her down.

I still have an oz from the dispo, so I am not going to rush the cure and I am going to try to let it cure for 3 months before trying it, or at least until after I finish her clone that is ready...but I am not. Life obligations for a while, so she is on the back burner and I will just let her veg out a bit.

Thanks for tagging along and for the help along the way!
