More trichome pics of plant 1: This Post

Still have 10 more videos to go through so more pics will be added to that thread.

Also been setting up automation using the Govee sensors and smart outlets. I love how the sensors show VPD, but I hate how you can't program the automation based on VPD readings, only temperature and humidity. I automated my window fan to control the lung room temperature, set to maintain 67f (68f turn on window fan to cool down, 66f turn fan off) and alert me if temp reaches above 72f (means I need to close the window and possibly turn on the AC). I then let the dry tent stabilize to find its temperature range so I could choose a good humidity to maintain.

Dry tent consistently stayed 1f to 2f hotter than the lung room. Min temp is around 68f and max temp I hope to keep under 74f. Since I can't reach the sweet spot of 60f/60RH with 0.71 kPa, I will instead use my temperature range and try to maintain a slightly higher kPa to reduce risk of mold. I will start by maintaining 68RH, exhaust when above 69RH until it is 67RH. As the interval between exhausting increases I will lower the humidity to maintain until it gets to 62RH and is ready for jars to be burped for a bit then into TerpLoc bags.

Temp (f)⠀⠀⠀⠀Humidity (RH)VPD (kPa)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
68-7467-690.73-0.95
68-74700.70-0.86
68-74690.73-0.89
68-74680.75-0.92
68-74670.77-0.95
68-74660.80-0.98
68-74650.82-1.00
68-74640.84-1.03
68-74630.87-1.06
68-74620.89-1.09

As long as the outside temps don't suddenly go back up in the 80s I should be able to maintain temps on the lower end of that range. Hopefully this works well. 🤞

So I am now realizing that slowly lowering the humidity will only work on the last plants added to the tent. With all the automation the dry tent has been averaging 71f +/- 1f. If I can maintain 69RH the tent would have 0.78kPa to 0.83kPa. With only a small try of water the tent currently maintains around 59RH. Replace that with a bunch of wet plants and I think it is doable.

Flowering week 12 day 3:

Gave plant 2 a heavy trimming to prepare it for harvest this weekend, or possibly a few days into next week. Hoping the added stress helps mature it a bit quicker.

I really think the 0.71kPa can only be achieved with 60f temperature since the lower temp also helps prevent rot. AI suggests a VPD range of 0.8kPa to 1.0kPa. If I aim for the middle I would need to maintain 65RH. I think this will be a much safer humidity. I will just let the tent bounce between 65RH and 66RH.

70f to 72f with 65RH to 66RH = 0.85kPa to 0.94kPa

Once small branch snaps nicely I will move into jars for burping until it settles at around 62RH, then into TerpLoc bags for long-term storage. Will keep some ready for smoking, of course.

The last plant in will get the slow lowering of humidity to see if I can skip the jar and burping. Will still jar to test it, but future harvests may just go right into TerpLoc bags.

Plant 2 already has a bunch of amber trichomes. Current plan is to harvest tomorrow night, but may extend it by a few days depending on the maturity of the other buds. Will get videos of the others tonight.

Harvested plant 2 yesterday. I have videos of the trichomes before harvest, but haven't pulled out good frames yet.

Plant 1 has been drying for 7 days, so I tested snapping a small branch, but they are not ready yet. Decided to rip off a tiny nug (0.15g after trimming) and give it a try. The nug was loose on the sides and dense at the top. It was sticky and smelly, with some hay smell. The taste was still very grassy. It was tough to light, but once roasted it burned to white ash. Two hits got me a good head high for about an hour.

Plant 2 has been hanging for almost 6 full days. Tried to snap a small bud off, but could only tear it off with excess force, so not ready quite yet. Trying to be more careful with this one since plant 1 dried a bit too long.

I trimmed the small nug I removed and tried it out. The smell is very strong and fruity. A bit grassy tasting as expected, slight chemical aftertaste. The high was a very powerful head high that lasted about an hour with a single hit.

Why is it that our homegrown bud hits harder than store bought? 😁

Going for about 20% amber, not counting amber on sugar leaves.
Keep on keeping on! Winter is coming, indoor forum should get pretty active from here on out. Had to chop a free Fem plant due to balls

I have hashed entire crops before, I juss prefer to choose which plants get hashed. If I get seeded, then well the decision was already made.

Maybe I should start a forum called "Mold floats" bud rot/ mold.
Mold floats, if you deep freeze for 10+ days, use an 8 bag system, the rot/mold goes in the first 3 bags. The lucky 72mic an after are good. Juss want to give some advice before ever one starts dumping crop.

Damn, that sucks. Hopefully it was sterile and you don't end up with a ton of premature seeds.

For anyone that ever needs to rehydrate your buds, tortillas work wonders. Very cheap, won't affect taste or smell (of the weed, not the tortilla), and lower moisture content than lettuce/spinach/kale, celery, or fruit (acidic fruits destroy terpenes) so less likely to cause mold if unattended. Can also easily tear it up in small pieces to line a jar for a more even rehydration.

This jar was stuck at 52%, so I added some tortilla pieces and now it is up to 60%. Burp as normal whenever it gets to 65% or so. Remove tortilla pieces as it stabilizes humidity, then move into a TerpLoc bag.

Forgot to mention I also made finger hash after trimming plant 2. No need to waste those sticky trichomes. Got more than plant 1, but only because I trimmed all of plant 2 already and have been lazy with trimming plant 1.

Some other plant matter got in there, but I just use it for additional potency when I smoke a bowl, so it doesn't need to be pure.

Plant 3 has been harvested and dried for 8 days. I got 16g trimmed dry weight from it. Plant 4 has also been harvested and has been hanging since Sunday night. I expect about an oz or so from this one.

Forgot to upload the picture I took of plant 4 hanging.

The branches are stiff enough to keep the buds separated. Many of the buds are offset from other branches too, so they are not touching.
