i made a batch of oil using buds and coconut oil and made some gummies. how can i use the same oil to fill vape cartridges? i have been reading about vg and tinctures, but i already have the oil. can i just add the vg to the oil and use it to vape?

Entirely different process making vape juice than a coconut oil infusion. Whatever you do, don't ever try and smoke coconut, MCT or vitamin E oils. It can trigger a potentially lethal lung inflammation called lipoid pneumonia.

If you used a solvent to process your oil there has to be a decent purge to get rid of most of it
Probably a vacuum oven, a bit pricey but maybe get a used one
As stated above no other oils, just the cannabis oil and a thinner
If solvent is not an issue then thinning is your last hurdle
Some dispensaries claim to use terpenes as a thinner
I purchased several sample sizes and the odor and effect was overwhelming just opening the tiny containers

Check some of the sites that sell terpenes
Think there was a diluent on some of the sites
It might be safer than some of the other additives
It is worth doing some reading to choose a good thinner
Hope some of this helps
Carts are further down the list after some edible and extraction processes for me

The advice I hear is use terps for thinning, not oils. I don't know if it's related to the lipoid pneumonia thing but I've noticed there are certain vape brands I've bought that give me a tight chest the next morning and it hurts to breathe deep, it goes away by midday but I never get that smoking weed and only some vapes, and I suspect whatever they used as a thinner or carrier is behind a temporary asthma like fluid buildup around the lungs.

from what i understand terps are just for flavor , the vg is the thinner?
Not sure because I have not got that far but I think there is a thinner derived from terpenes or a byproduct of the process that thins out cannabis oil
I was researching terpene blends to add to my edibles
On one of the sites selling terpenes thought I saw a diluent on offer, it was a while ago
A lot of differing opinions on what to use to thin cart oil

What is terpene diluent?

Description: this extract diluent is an odourless and tasteless blend of terpenes. It can be blended with any extract to create the perfect consistency for vape liquid. How to blend: heat your desired extract (rosin, shatter, etc.) over low heat until it is liquified.

I don't fully get it but my understanding is terpenes themselves are oil based VOC's and different terp compounds have different consistencies, so it's used for setting viscosity. Want it thinner, use a terp with a lower viscosity.

That's my meager understanding as well
I think the processing allows them to isolate compounds for different applications
The question being why are terpene compounds safer than glycerine or mct oil?
Please do your homework people, you are breathing these mixes in vapor form

If I could grow; rosin press

This is the company I purchased my terpene blend samples

Coconut or MCT oil infusions can’t be safely vaped. They don’t vaporize properly, and inhaling them can cause lipoid pneumonia. Adding VG won’t fix this.

I got into DIY vaping with my first device from https://ecigone.co.uk/, and one thing that’s clear is that cartridges are made from cannabis extracts like distillate or rosin, not infused oils. Extracts are already cannabinoid-rich and sometimes lightly thinned with terpenes for viscosity.

Your oil is fine for edibles or topicals, but it isn’t safe for vape carts, which require a different extraction process.

What can we make if anything oil wise that will be safe to smoke is the question.
Resin. Rosin shatter, wax ....?

Does anyone have a process? Id love to be able to make carts safely.

Aside from a straight rosin press, you need to use terpene derived diluent to thin your mixture
Even the rosin press oil needs to be thinned
I posted a link above to a company that sells diluent
You can research and see if there is a cheaper way to make a thinner that will work and not cause so much respiratory distress
I'm working on nano emulsion right now
Carts are down the road as I do not use them too much

Edit: you can make shatter at home fairly easy but you have to purge the solvent and that requires a vacuum oven
Even dispensaries have trace amounts of solvent
Diamonds require some lab equipment but don't look too hard
Terpenes sauce soon

Pretty much what I had figured.
Maybe Ill do a BHO extraction.
I'll have to look and see what's needed and if its viable.

Lots of DIY on the tube for BHO
It does a good job of extraction but you still need a purge
I don't think it's the extraction that's an issue but more the viscosity and how it flows through the vape cartridge
Back to the diluent
There is a chance that you can look up the process of creating a diluent at home
The essential oils crowd may be able to help but be careful because they are not inhaling the oils directly in a vapor cloud

You can do an RSO extraction with high grain alcohol. If you want to do cold extract (so you don't accidentally blow the house up), decarb it first. There's a how to thread somewhere here on the website. Once you have your RSO you can thin it with terps so that it doesn't clog the cart when you hit it. It's on my to do list but I'm still enjoying an extraction I did into some heavy whipping cream. I used 5 ounces of weed in a pint of cream. A teaspoon worth is a 500mg+ dose 😜🤣

Ive been know to make a lil rso with some everclear.

I would not thin it with terps and smoke it.

The picture is triple rinsed with distilled water. It doesn't have the everclear burn to it. I believe there's other shit in it that's not good to smoke also.

this not safe for vaping. They don’t vaporize correctly, and inhaling them can lead to lipoid pneumonia. Adding VG (vegetable glycerin) won’t solve the problem. When I started vaping live resin with my first device from sluggers disposables, one thing became clear: vape cartridges are designed for cannabis extracts like distillate, live resin or rosin—not infused oils. Extracts are naturally rich in cannabinoids and are sometimes lightly thinned with terpenes to adjust viscosity.
