I thank you for pointing out my loose usage of the English language. Though I sure I could show you where plants make decisions whether or you might say they have no choice but react to conditions. React or decided I guess I do not have such narrow definitions.
I did state that people will feel this is not true before I wrote my opinion,which has been formed from being a lot of different plants rather then read books from jorge and ed.

Should I keep this one??? I culled 9 boys today.......I tossed em infront a the mower after removing the pail and they are now in next years compost!! I wish I wasn't such a rookie!!! 50% of something is a whole lot more than 100% of nothing I keep saying.......

I believe in feeding your plants well, but I believe in holding back the supply so it is being replaced as used. Like the way the big box stores order supplies for their store. They arrive as needed rather then having to store a lot of product till it is needed.

In industry it's called J.I.T. delivery. Just some useless trivia but I think it applies. Just In Time..........it can be risky in industry as unforseen problems like overturned semis full of automobile carpets can shut down production, But almost no inventory is in reserve...maybe 1/2 a shifts worth. We used to say it meant "Jets In Transit" because A LOT of material has to travel great distances (read: Mexico) to reach assembly plants in Canada and the U.S. FedEx hauls a lotta car parts on it's jets..........just 2 cents worth.....in horticulture..........well I'm an auto worker not a hortuculturist............:confused: Cannabis plants? Assembly Plants??? Rant off!

Just don't do it, tuck them under or behind but never ever remove green fan leaves. The fan leaves are the motors that drive you plants growth. Some stupid ideas never die fast enough. Look up Stomata and what they do and you will stop.

I think most of us know what stomata's do, but more leaves don't equal more bud. Too many leaves reduce air flow and increases the chance of mold and mildew. I'm not saying plants don't need leaves, but strategic pruning is a good technique (when done correctly) that I've never seen or heard anyone complain about loss of yield or potency. Calling it a "stupid idea" is IMHO a poor choice of words, pruning isn't an 'idea', its a proven technique that works.

IMO when leaves cluster together and block light to lower area's of the plant, there gonna get plucked whether there green or yellow. Whats the point of using a 600 or 1k watt light with alot of penetration power if its gonna get blocked by the top layer of leaves?? If I can remove 2 leaves so the light can now penetrate deeper and cover 6 leaves, I just increased the surface area of my plant so I'm getting more photosynthesis. Each leave can only photosynthesise so much and if a leave is getting more light then what it can use in photosynthesis, then by removing that leave you are spreading the excess light (energy) to other leaves to be used by the plant. Why do you think people Top and LST there plants to create an even canopy?? Its to increase surface area so as many leaves as possible are getting ample amounts of light.

It takes alot more skill then people think, but if you prune correctly you can give your plants more light to be absorbed by increasing the surface area of the leaves which is one of the main factors in plant growth.

I agree ..............."stupid idea" :confused: is not the best choice of words. The Indicas I have have HUGE leaves and they cast huge shadows as a result. Each leaf I take away lets more light get down onto the lower leaves! I strategically prune.....but like I said the jury is still out. Now I'm going to go price a Nissan Leaf!!

The way I look at it and personally think is helping my crop out tremendously is, every leaf is a solar panel for your plant, but i believe it mainly affects the closest node growing from that leaf. If that node/branch has sufficient growth, then it no longer needs a big sun leaf. They end up dying off anyways as the plant transfers energy into new growth and leaves the old behind. I also Train my plants so that all branches are about equal height. honestly i only focus on the main buds, meaning i only keep 8" of every branch growing and eliminate everything below that point. Not only do i take off unnecessary leaves, but branches also. I dont want my plant focusing energy on popcorn buds. the less nodes a branch has on it, the more energy is going to be focused on the tip of that branch.
Sorry if I lost ya. lets just say my plant looks like an upside down umbrella and i focus everything on the main buds. Ever since i started growing this way, i have saved room in my grow room, maximized light usage, and increased the size of my buds by 100%+. Im still perfecting my technique... but as a genuine hobbyist, i will never be satisfied haha

you know with that 30K+ price tag on those things you could buy a real car a civic accord or like a carolla, for say 16.... 18 if you want some shit in it.... 15K miles a year at 40 MPG 1312.50 in gas.

so for under the price tag of that thing, you could fully purchase the car, pay for gas for the next ten years (probably insurance too) support all maintenance, and you'd still be probably 5K LESS than just the purchase of that car.

Its not worth the technology of electrics or hybrids yet. after you pay for the technology you would have to hope the car NEVER has problems AND you drive it for 10+ years before YOU EVEN RECUPE THE COST OF THE TECHNOLOGY, then you can start saving your extra 5 MPG.....

I think all plants will be different, as will growers. Some plants will like to be pruned, some wont. If its a finicky asshole plant thats super sensitive, i dont think it'll like how it starts getting fed, but if its a fuckin hulk crazy yielder that you barely water and dank comes out, of course prune the plant.

MY PERSONAL OPINION, DONT PRUNE THEM. it seems everything is made on earth perfect, so thinking your smarter than nature by pullin off some leaves for an extra 7 grams per plant (MAYBE) and not letting it grow the way nature intended, is dumb i think. Let it grow the way it does, of course tuck them in and bend them to give more light, but a fish cant breathe without its gils, and there is no human that could outsmart simple nature like that...... they are there for a fuckin reason.... simple as that i think

@Classic Remix- You can't compare nature to indoors, if you allow your plants to grow "naturally" indoors then you will not get the most out of your plants. The reason most cannabis plants grow in a christmas tree form is to increase the surface area of the plant so as the sun is at an angle or directly above the plants, they will receive optimum light. Now indoors, most lights are directly above the plant and it don't move, so creating an even canopy is basically going against nature, but it will increase yield. I don't know where you got 7 grams from, but when I grew a plant "naturally" without training and pruning I got 2 1/2 oz. from 1 plant. When I Topped, pruned and LST'd another plant that was the same strain in an almost identical environment, I got about 6 oz. from 1 plant, same size buckets, same nutes, same veg time, just about everything was the same except I did NOT allow it to grow the way nature intended.

Nobody is trying to outsmart mother nature, but we are trying to get the most from a plant that is not in its original environment, so we must train the plant to fit our indoor setup. The reason most good growers with horizontal lights will Top, prune and/or LST plants is to increase yield and its a proven fact when you create an even canopy compared to the natural "christmas tree" look, the plant with an even canopy will yield more with all other factors constant.

i respectfully disagree with that. Indoor, IMO, is about being able to make optimal conditions for the plant to grow, without the least outside factors being risked..... i dont think its really about getting the most out of your plants.... you could really argue that would be outdoor....
Are you simply going for weight? is that what this pruning was about? or is it the overall general WELL BEING being more positive in ways...i guess i should have thought about that.

I guess me being all about quality all day, I see no reason to fix what is most definitely not broken.

so youre telling me, with this sentence alone, that you're willing to try and argue your theory and not see both sides, WHILE saying that something subjective DOES NOT affect the end product. is that in a nutshell not the whole meaning of this thread? researching and checking stuff out? then why leave it at that and be so stubborn when it come to any other ideal even close?

i cant do hypocritical conversations. i gives me a headache.

pruning on an indoor crop is crucial imo, if your trying to maximise yield in a small space pruning is essential, and ive done it either way and i found no diff in potency or even taste, just more yield at the end :)

im not sayin go crazy but defo 1or2 per cola to allow the light/air down to those bottom bud sites :)

for sure, but he's talking PRUNING BIG FAN LEAVES, like in the title. you just lollipop and clear out, which is absolutely what you should do. He's saying take off ALL those big fan leaves, so lower sites get more light or something.... which doesnt let them breathe.
