Filtering botrytis affected Cannabis oil to remove spores/botrytis

Dude, you should carefully read my reply here. It is very helpful (in my opinion). Thanks! - D-Rok

Yes, heat breaks up aflatoxins (proteins). Heat denatures proteins which means the di-sulfide bridge present in every protein is broken, leading to a configuration (toxin) that isn't what it once was. Having said that, however, aflatoxins have an amazing ability to cause disease and/or...

I'm not sure what you've been told, but as an experienced mycologist with 20+ years of experience, YES, I can tell who is who just by looking. Rarely, I'm wrong when I mount the sample and examine with microscope (which I do with ALL cultures). I admit I can research auto-flourescing with a...

Well, I suppose I could ask him that. Since I know GC/MS, maybe I'll stroll on over and "help" him with that analysis - eh?

Hey great catch, my man! Indeed, chitin is found in almost all plant matter (not certain of exact % - pretty high tho) and therefore, from a medical approach - won't this allergy be discovered before the moldy weed was going to be smoked? LOL I make a joke, but it is true - allergies to...

I'm from mid-NC (Greensboro). I know there is legislature pending a vote in November in our House. This bill has been stalled for many years now, so my optimism this MMJ bill will be passed. I plan on sending my district representatives a letter using my credentials as a microbiologist to...

Thank you for the confidence in knowledge I've gleaned, but don't underestimate engineers - those guys are damn smart and very well-rounded in many disciplines of science!!! You want to know what I learned in college? Not so much to cram my head full of facts to sound smart, but I was taught...

First, I defer your question of alcohol solvent selection in Cali to the response given by daub marley. I lived in Cali for about 30 years before work brought me to the East Coast about 10 years ago (which I now highly regret leaving Cali as I have at least 2 confirmed diagnoses which...

    Acetone extraction- The Ultimate

Wow that's pretty cool of you to help out a newbie like myself. Thank you! I will indeed heed your advice and start my research. Chances are, I might have some methods in some Toxicology texts I own. Oh and PS: Yes, acetone and heat can be dangerous, but I'm cautious with it and respect it...

LittleDabbie, I'm all ears! Honestly, I don't remember much about butane extraction, but I love learning and would love it if you could start me down that road by pointing me in some direction as to the method. Thanks and have a great day!!! :)

Thanks for the comments, Ocean24. I will research your questions and respond definitively tomorrow after work. As far as the filter removing all spore material - fungi are known to break into pieces, (I see fungal fragments every day using what's called a spore-trap method, and these pieces...

daub marley TY for your kind words. Without texts to look up the correct answer as to the toxin names, I will respond (probably tomorrow evening after work) when I can look up the names of the toxins. I could do a Web search, but unless it's a peer-reviewed article, I'm dubious as to...

Sorry to correct...didn't want to come across as critical, I just have this thing with spelling, plus, all my prof's in college sure insisted on proper spelling/grammar, etc.!!!!

I have used HPLC to research separating proteins from wheat rusts (Tilletia species), but I certainly couldn't afford an HPLC...they cost more than most houses! HPLC is too small to live in, so I'll stick with acetone extraction for now. Stick....LMAO@my own self.

2x LMAO @ Capulator. Yeah, that would indeed extract THC, no doubt. But, I think your suggested method would probably make the first cannabis fatality (kidding).:cigar:

    Acetone extraction- The Ultimate

Yes, Vodka will extract some THC, and it certainly is WAY safer! Any alcohol-based solvent will extract THC. Acetone will give you much higher % THC, and more volume of black goo. Additionally, any alcohol suitable to drink will have residual water in it after the extraction...and that's one of...

I anticipate more where that came from (ball-busting) since heating acetone is very dangerous. I've done it about 50 times, I'd estimate, but since taught the chemistry techniques, I am aware of its limitations. And no, I'm still not comfortable doing it, but the end result, for me, justifies...

    Acetone extraction- The Ultimate

For some reason I think it might be called "dabbing" or "dobbing" or something along those lines. Although you can take a tiny amount of goo to add to your bowl, which makes you much more higher, and sleep more soundly...I find that scraping say, an amount the size of a nail-head (sorry to be...

    Acetone extraction- The Ultimate

PS: As you alluded to, gooey, this method tastes horrible! The real trick is learning when to stop the heat so that you don't have liquid (remaining acetone) but just goo. I forgot to mention the taste part...my point wasn't about taste, but in this case, how to salvage fungi-riddled crop. In...
