I am loving this thread. I also live in the forest and love to put local forest product into my holes. Dirt from under where mushrooms grow, insect poop from decaying tress, tree compost that is 25-30 years breaking down naturally, little pockets of forest top soil years in the making...somehow the thought of growing my personal smoke from my own unique forest blend of organics is exciting.
@GrowingGreen have you made home made bio char? Easy, great way to use small diameter branches from the forest and incorporate nutrient charged charcoal into your soil...good stuff!
Have fun!

Well, I took branches that came from an oak tree, but you can use almost any carbon based material. I chose to use sticks about the diameter of my finger.
Took a small (3 gal) metal garbage pail with a tight fitting lid ( doesn't have to be air tight, but close as you can get.). Drilled 3 or 4 1/4 inch holes in the lid. Tightly filled the can with pieces of oak. Put can right on hot camp fire. First I saw steam coming from the holes ( and lid). After some time the steam is replaced with the gases that are in the wood. You hear these gases blowing out of the holes. Often, these gases will catch fire as they are escaping the can which is fun to watch and let's you know it's working.
Now all this escaping steam and gases have prevented any air from entering the can, a good thing. Once the gases have burned/browned off remove the can and cover the holes with dirt, etc. to keep air from entering the can as it cools.
You now have biochar. Crush it up ( not so much fun) and soak it in your favorite nute mix ( so it doesn't pull nutes from soil),
Ready to mix into your soil and lasts eons.
Lots on biochar on u tube.

LOL.. He has passion for his soil for sure.. As much as I giggle by his explanation; I applaud someone with that much passion because I can relate with most things to do with growing or soil micro-biology. :D

Great start on them @GrowingGreen . =) Will be a fun thread to follow along for sure and that Root Better is going to make your roots explode and much better nutrient uptake.

i still think the cow shit works,,thing about cow shit,,and believe me when i say got experience,,but thing is ,it compacts quick,,cant allow to completly dry out or you wind up with rock shit,,lmao,,really keeping it broke up is a chore by itself,,what do you think about this,,grind it up to almost a powder,,add about 40% perlite along with more of a wood base mixed in ,hay, straw, pine needles, wood that will crush under you feet like humus,,with feeds ,feed yucca with your food..ive seen folk grow great herb in it,,just a bite more complex to keep it,from packing up

well ive used it for years bro,,it always compacts like freaking rocks adding sticks ,needles, wood chips at least keep it to the point that if it does ball up it still gets feed to the roots,,instead of big ass clots ,you have smaller ones,,grind it up and add some of these things,it will help
