Dialing it in on superior genetics that can handle a lot is so much easier, if you constantly kill plants or have weirdness you won't finish runs. The biggest thing for new growers is to go from seedling to drying get practice with all of it. Drying is delicate and if you don't have practice you will RUIN good bud. In my opinion the entire process is important. Bad genetics will throw you for a loop. Don't spend a ton, but get reputable genetics from someone. Hang around here for a while and people on here breed, talk to people. But get decent seeds and photoperiods is my advice
