1000W to 600W

I've got a 1000W hood and ballast and would like to run a 600W. If I buy the 600W MH and HPS bulbs, will they work in the 1000W hood and ballast?

dont do it,if its not a ballest that itself dims to 600, get a new ballest or use a 100o watt bub.if you lived in a cave or deserted island maybe

if you got a digital ballast thats dimmable you can if not you cant.
