I would 100% rather strips than cobs no matter how big the space. If you are using hps and your plants don't burn then you are either not utilizing the edges of your tent effectively, or you're using CO2 (in that case you'd also not be utilizing the edges effectively because they would also have the CO2.no just more marketing. My hps plants dont burn in the middle. The differences are extremely minor. And strip lights lost a bit of max ppfd compared to boards and cobs. Everything is a trade off. The only answer is right tool for the job. Would you want huge strip lamps over your plants in a greenhouse or would you prefer proper greenhouse fixtures?

Mimed are you say that the material the boards VS the stripes are print on is different?no just more marketing. My hps plants dont burn in the middle. The differences are extremely minor. I'm not criticizing you. I'm just expressing my knowledge of strips and cobs. You have all the answers. ;-)
i dont flower in a tent i have multiple lamps in an open converted bedroom and dont use co2.
Lots of different ways to grow.
Please look at just page one of my perpetual garden thread and teach me what i am doing wrong with my lamps.
Mimed’s Perpetual Thread
I guess after 5 years of perpetual growing and more than 35 years smoking herb and in the industries black market its time i start my own thread. I grow a small but productive medical garden with mrs. Mmg and i allowed up to 24 plants. We both have realized health benefits from weed and have...www.thcfarmer.com

Haha Funny you mention that, my good sir . As we speak I am growing my orange tomato, bell pepper, squash, microgreens and basil seedlings under trusty ole T-5 HOs I have laying around from a now outdated aquarium setup. I used to use T5HOs on a religious basis before discovering aquarium rated planted+ and rapid led builds. Figure I mind as well take it out of the closet and use it for its last bits of juice before one of my housemates accidently breaks it while rummaging around in there for a duster or a vacuum bag.Gavita is selling a big strip lamp now. The hobby lighting market always seems to go from aquariums then grow lights.
remember when we got t-5 ho?
I’ve got cobs, both of the Vero 29, and Cree CXB variety. going forward I would never again purchase the Vero’s due to their iffy wiring connection for the cobs.Figured we are in a new year which means new product upgrades. So, what are the best cobs on the market this year for the average DIYer?
I heard about the Citizen CLUs, the Crees (CXB3590, CXB3070) , the Luminous (CXM22), the Vero 29s etc. But I am having a hard time finding a dedicated forum page for finding the best options out this year.
Best spectrum-
Most efficient-
Most cost effective-
Best value (cost benefit analysis)-
I personally was looking at the Luminous CXM22s, but Im unfamiliar with the general options and dont want to fire the gun without knowing the general consesus. My past experience with LED lights was limited to planted tanks and reef tanks, this is a new frontier for me and I feel very lacking.
So please, anyone with knowledge, feel free to get me and other newbs up to speed.
Id prefer not to have this discussion get into QBs or prebuilt kits, but rather focus on the various COB bulbs themselves for the average person who may or may not be weighin options for a DIY build. I wouldve added a poll but I am sure I am missing other options and wouldnt want to exclude them. Im sure this post will bring up an exhaustive list of all the ones used in indoor horticulture to the point another post could list an all-inclusive poll.
Thanks for any and all input and ofcourse,
Happy growing!!!

ill make sure to steer clear of veros then. definitely dont want to come home to a house fire.I’ve got cobs, both of the Vero 29, and Cree CXB variety. going forward I would never again purchase the Vero’s due to their iffy wiring connection for the cobs.
So most people here would prefer diod strips as opposed to cobs in a circuit

So +1 for Cree CXB
-1 for Veros
^^ @Dan789 ^^Are they these? I would be surprised timber would build with a bad cob.
Have you ever used hps? Be honest. I havn't seen any leds that distribute light better than hps. You should try a mini sunburst.I would 100% rather strips than cobs no matter how big the space. No I haven't. I'm sorry but I just can't believe that. Even with a perfect hood, there would still be much more light in the center than the outside. Maybe you mean hps can distribute light at a bigger angle but definitely not more evenly. It's physics.Have you ever used hps? Be honest. I havn't seen any leds that distribute light better than hps. Thanks for the heads up. Mine are a few years old... and I haven’t kept up with whats available now. Obviously that older design had some drawbacks and Bridgelux went back to the drawing boards...^^ @Dan789 ^^
Im not gonna speak for Timber or Dan but I would imagine that Timber may very well be using the Veros SE's variant show below which I would imagine have less janky connections. Veros SE are their "state of the art" design- veros words not mine...
Compare center reading to outside readings. As you can see, hps doesn't make nearly the hot spot as led. My light meter also confirms. No I haven't. I'm sorry but I just can't believe that. The lights used in those tests are cobs or small qb's. Strips will give you a perfect footprint.Compare center reading to outside readings. As you can see, hps doesn't make nearly the hot spot as led. My light meter also confirms.
Full Spectrum Led Grow Lights, Par Light
Full Spectrum Led Grow Lights, HID, and fluorescent light fixtures emits for a plant to use, there are two primary measurements that should be read and examined together.www.kindledgrowlights.com
The picture speaks for itself, they are Vero 29’s check the number visible. This isn’t a timber fixture so I can’t speak to what they may have used...Are they these? I would be surprised timber would build with a bad cob.
I agree strips can spread light better. I'm not using them. I'm using hps and qbs. The hps doesn't have near the hot spot. The lights used in those tests are cobs or small qb's. Strips will give you a perfect footprint.
Ok, that is very possible. I was talking about strips before.I agree strips can spread light better. I'm not using them. I'm using hps and qbs. The hps doesn't have near the hot spot.
