How often do you anticipate hand watering? Never played with coco but it’s on my list, I’d run coco in a 5 gallon bucket hand watered but not sure how long that’s go between needing waterings

Same here with the photo / autos I do think the autos are cool and have a use case though, say if you’re like me and have the flower tent plus a veg tent with another additional space, my 4x8 flower tent is full with 3 plants atm Frostette will rotate out in about 10-14 days and I can bring in more but otherwise I’d be able to flower some autos with my veg plants, but my rotation usually keeps me more than supplied, I’d rather run 2 huge plants then 6 small, these 12 gallon pots are nice, in my 5 gallon buckets I’d be watering daily at this point but I’m still making it 48 hours between watering near the end of flower

If I was allowing clones this run this Frostette would be it haha

4-5 x's a day. Auto watering, a 55 gal drum, a pump and hose with drip heads are the way to go if you can keep the plant numbers down. I can not so I mix about 60 gallons a day in 1 gal Milk bottles and hand water (fertigate really, it's never just water) all the plants. Very labor intensive and time consuming unless you set up an automatic watering system.

The main problem (besides adding too many plants, at lesst for me) is the waste water. You need to water until 10+% of the water comes out the bottom of the pot every time. Dealing with this waste water can be difficult especially inside. Being in a greenhouse or outside makes it a lot easier. You cannot reuse this water for much. I have a 3 x 5' shower pan in my small greenhouse I grew on and had the waste water return to the main container. Plants lasted less than a week before problems started. Can't reuse the waste water for growing. It does help grass grow and flower beds love it but not more than once a week at most or you can harm mature plants. Trees also love a once a week drink, otherwise the water needs to go into the lawn or sewer. We're on septic but we've got a good sized property and more than enough space for the waste water but I wouldn't be opposed to putting it down the drain.

After I scale back this winter I'll set up automated again and only have to deal with a breeding pair or two around the yard. In the winter I don't need to fertigate more than 3 x's a day. Growth will be slower but the coco isn't drying out constantly like in summer and the reason they need it 5 x's a day.

Basically I’d like
1: 1 gallon (your medium choice)
2: Photos or auto (no clones this time)
3: Everyone will get the same start date, that will be the seed splash date, once everyone’s seed has popped we will select a date 20-30 days in the future to flip for photos, not sure of the Veg timing for most autos I know some are fast some veg longer, so we’ll have to account for that. Maybe find an somewhat average veg time for autos and select a flip date for the photos based off that but I’d like a short veg quick flip type challenge
4: training and topping is obviously a decision everyone will have to make given the short veg time allotment we will have to plan so folks will have to very carefully select timing for any topping etc before veg time runs out
5: your choice synthetic or organic we can seperatly vote on whatever we’d like afterwards, group the autos together make a poll, group the photos together, make a poll, group the males together etc but we don’t need seperate topics for the grow we can separate it out however we’d like for a vote at the end, and make those decisions as we go during the comp
6: Genetics, your choice as long as it’s seed, fem reg whatever strain you’d like, hell some might even be wanting a male to pop

This was a quick idea lost

Maybe

best grow style (time management)
Heaviest weight
Best overall appearance

If we’d like to break it down we can have an organic / synthetic vote separate

Same for photos and autos

Photo organic
Photo synthetic
Auto organic
Auto synthetic

But I think that’ll separate folks too much, not enough in each category, so I’d say we just break it down to autos / photos, your choice of neuts synthetic or organic

It's kind of funny.... We all grow everyday, it's fun, enjoyable, beneficial, etc but here we all are getting so excited to grow in an undersized pot and grow a harvest with probably much less yield then we would in our regular pot sizes and our own time frame
I guess for me, I'm excited to try something new and doing it together as a community is just icing on the cake

@Mikedin - you will have to give green light when your Monday will start. I might be in the different day land
I understand if I sprout bit late I won't get penalty?
I have 55 days from seeds auto expresses

To make things educational I will have 3 plants, same seeds in 0.8, 3 and 5 gallon together.
Will be funny if zero point eight in coco overgrow bigger ones in soil

I honestly don't think a few hours here or there are gonna make a difference. I'm going to start soaking when I get up tomorrow, west coast time. Ya all will be ahead of me but again, won't matter

Feel the same way! I just gone done running a 2gal run, so will be fun to test a 1 and watch everyone as well! I'll dropping a couple of the MACdawg F2s I just made, and the Ghost Train Haze bagseed I got. I'll be growing a couple Cannatonic that I will veg longer along side that will end up in 5gals (since they were already on my schedule while I wait to harvest, winterize, and test my first cross)

OFFICIAL TIMELINE FOR THE 2024 ONE GALLON CHALLENGE!

Start date 8/5
Germ timeline: 8/5 - 8/12 (7 days)
Seedling timeline 8/12-8/26 (14 days)
Veg timeline 8/26 - 9/30 (36 days)

This timeline leaves 92 days from end of veg / start of flower, to new years. Most plants should finish within this timeline. There will be no exact finish date, when all entrants have finished flower the contest will end, we will determine an adequate dry time (most likely 2 weeks) then we will vote on weight and manicured bud appearance last. For the other categories voting can begin when the last plant finishes.

May have a best appearance vote at end of veg as well (best plant shape / most efficient training method etc)

The dates above are final, all entrants must follow the timeline, I will split the final members list into 2 or 3 groups (not dependent on strain or auto / photo I will use a random generator to determine groups) you will be placed in group 1 or group 2,

Mondays and Thursdays will be photo submission date for group 1

Tuesdays and Fridays will be photo submission days for group 2

A designated topic will be created tomorrow for ALL entrants to show their seed / strain a medium / explain your grow and your goals, In one post each, after the initial posts no further comments will be allowed in the photo submission topic all posts besides the photo submissions will be deleted.

An additional category for males will be made if we have any come up during the competition!

This current topic will continue as the chat topic for the contest.

Re read what you typed and see there could be another answer sorry! Let Mikedin answer your question : ) I think the answer though will be one per person this round : )
