All good in New Yawk!Hudson Valley NY 8-2-26 Lots of heavy wind and rain couple of broken branches but still looking OK and some will be ready very soon! What a growing season we've had this year!
I had all 15 gallon last summer I averaged about 3/4 lbs each some more but that was the averageNo one can tell you with 100% certainty but I would expect you to yield 4-6 ounces per plant. 6 being optimal growth and health.
Do you eat them? I know they’re not quite as desirable as English walnuts, but they are quite edible!View attachment 2693889
Cleaning a black walnut
We have grey pines around here that have 5 pound cones that could kill you if one ever hit you in the head! Lol! But the squirrels make short work of them to get the seed! No. Theirs a big tree on the farm, lots of little trees coming up around my shop. I seen a few videos on how to clean them, lots of work, but not for that squirrel!
I remember when I moved to Missouri my first year father in law said get a pickup truck bed full and bring them to this spotView attachment 2693889
Cleaning a black walnut
The neighbor on the corner planted two rows of black walnut seedlings near the back of their property. Two years later they were planning on selling the house and asked if we wanted to come dig them up and take them. No, thank you. Those tap roots were probably halfway to China by then, so they grew where they were and the squirrels run back and forth from those trees to my flower garden and bury the darn things. Have them coming up everywhere.I remember when I moved to Missouri my first year father in law said get a pickup truck bed full and bring them to this spot
Spent 6 hours collecting these mf made 33$ just enough money to get a good beer buzz on never picked one after that day![]()
My 80+ year-old mother-in-law used to spend hours and hours cracking and picking walnuts! Loved it when I would bring over shopping bags full of them! Said it kept her hands in good working order! This is walnut country!I remember when I moved to Missouri my first year father in law said get a pickup truck bed full and bring them to this spot

Now you’re talking, hoss! Walnuts are one of the healthiest things you can eat! I throw them in my brownies, just for some texture! This message brought to you by the northern California Walnut growers Association!I occasionally make black walnut fudge.
