Are you familiar with the app Photone? I was messing with it trying to understand DLI. Is there a specific number the plants want to reach a day, and then use these tools to measure and see if they're reaching it? I've researched a bit but couldn't quite comprehend. Then I watched a youtube video explaining it and my brain fried.
Yes, it works kinda but it's not necessary. Since you are outside go to https://www.suntrackertech.com/dli-calculator/ and it will tell you your average DLI for your area. And my guess is you are probably already at the point in the year you are getting sufficient DLI. In fact with seedlings you want to limit it during high sun of the day as it can stress them and stunt them. So use your lights for longer periods at night when young. If the sun is too intense, get a shade cloth or make one out of window screen material. Lots of places sell them. But just for shits and giggles here is the most often recited chart and levels. And it's also from Photone. Again not a lot of research in that area so it's accuracy is ehhhh. Where I am at I am already nearly 40 DLI but lots of variables contained in that.

And BTW, it took me a minute to find this older post but here it is. Again, not much in way of research on Autos and DLI but some does suggest it's clearly lower than Photos.

And you can see in that thread, I have fucked up more than not...so take what I say with a grain of the salt the size of Mt. Rainier.

I've come over to France and have taken a look at my gorilla grow. Planted 2 sprouted beans a month back. Ones gone, insects or drought got her.
The other one hardly grown but still here. I planted these in tiny grow bags which I thought would let the roots through. Looks like they don't.
Replanted the survivor without the bag and watered her. Put more seeds sIoaking.View attachment 2644998
I'd clear more debri

I'd clear out more debri from around your grow area, keeps slugs off them, dirt sticks to slugs, so they typically won't traverse thru it. Maybe a bit of chicken wire, added for protection.

Now that’s a truly funny, and no egotism involved, response. Love that! Pure honesty with humility!

But Bear aren't you worried about the gophers? Plumber says they are terrible in that part of the world.
Im not worried about them : ) but yes they can be a problem, and voles too! Our front yard garden had something digging around it last year. I put the little solar vibrator beeper sticks all around and the drove them off and they havent returned!

thanks Gal! They took well! Wasn’t sure if they were going to like that they didn’t have a chance to harden off! : ) and the three littles in the ground ground are growing in old run soil and peat! ❤️✌️

I'm more than willing to take my chances with your advice lol. I do think I'm really lacking an understanding of both light and watering, but with what you've provided, it's helping fill in the gaps. Thanks for the info, I'll be looking through it this morning.

If I'm being completely honest about these autos, I'm not sure my light, temp, rh, water ph, or soil were proper to start. Because of trying to get them in the sun, they have suffered significant temperature fluctuations in this first week and definitely a lack of light. They just seem stunted, almost exactly as the ones I did in solo cups. If I had one guess as to why they seemingly stunted, it's because the recommendation was 24 inches from the rim of the cup to the light, and even though they emerged on day 4, and cotyledons developed, the first true set of leaves really struggled. I think both height and intensity were wrong to begin. Either that or my light sucks. Last year with same light, I got 6 regular durban poison seeds to sprout under that light, transplanted them outdoors later, and had a decent grow.

Although I'm still trying with the autos, I'm slightly turning my focus to my Big Bud fast version which seems to be doing ok here in day 5. I intend to place it outdoors in 7 gal pot when it's ready.

To me autos have a couple good advantages, 1. I can pick up and move 3-5 gals bags still. 2. I don't get as bored with them since they are out fast and furious. But I am still learning them too. So same boat, just different shoes my friend. Enjoy the ride.

I love my Auto grows outdoors in the summer, my tent grows, eh, I still have alot to learn. For this year's Afghan Autos I did not make the mistake of starting them too early for outside. I splashed them 3 days ago and they will be staying in the house until warmer weather which is supposed to happen in a few days. 😁

But, I need to feed them more regularly this summer. It gets a little complicated when we get days of rain and I have just fed them. Do I add more or wait till the next scheduled round? That's the question I wish to puzzle out in a couple of weeks.

Started these two 2nd generation autos outdoor and it looks like they're happy. I guess that's what you call em (2nd generation)🤷‍♂️ I found 4 seeds from the last batch and was able to get 2 to pop and start growing.

Y’all were right on point about my Northern Light autos. Definitely blooming and wow, super growth spurt and tons (at least to me) of points of flower getting bigger for sure. Next week Thursday is nute day. Should be going FF Tiger Bloom? Of course lightly.
