Wow, is that life correct? 375 hours? If so, thats a ridiculously short lifespan. Sounds good on the rest of the specs, but the lifespan is WAY too short. Osram makes some good bulbs, check out their Plantastar HPS, first bulb created from the ground up for horticulture (the Hortilux, FYI, wasn't created for growing initially, someone just happened to notice it worked well for it). I've used them in the past, and they have an awesome spectrum, noticeable to even the naked eye. My plants loved em! :)

lol. have you been lookin' in my lamp catalogs?

did you notice the price? yes, that's $2,317.25

they're amazing lamps. 'very small arc, which is desirable for control. a couple of companies make fresnels that use this lamp.

here it is:

would make an interesting vertical/stadium type setup. Like a mini sun. How is the spectrum?

the spectrum is incredible, about the closest you can get to daylight with an arc lamp.

but this lamp, and many other arc lamps created for use in projectors and studio lighting, have a short life and cost $$$.

this HMI lamp costs $2,317.25 has a life of 375 hours.

if you're wondering, it's been around for about 40 years, and the price hasn't come down.

. . . so it's not going to be cost effective until you start getting something over $15k an elbow.

btw, one of the first uses of HMI was in the film close encounters of the third kind. two or three custom lekos were made for HMI lamps for the mothership scene.
