BALDWIN, MI — A 49-year-old Baldwin-area man was busted Sunday after a traffic stop led police to his marijuana-filled home, authorities said.
The man was pulled over by a Michigan State Police trooper about 8:30 a.m., Sgt. Andrew Ambrose said.
The trooper was "overwhelmed" by the smell of marijuana coming from the man's vehicle, and a search found roughly a pound and a half of the drug, Ambrose said.
Authorities arrested the man, whose identity is being withheld pending arraignment, on an initial charge of possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
Further investigation led authorities to believe the man may have more marijuana in his Pleasant Plains Township home in Lake County. Police found 29 plants, Ambrose said.
The plants were seized by police, and the man was lodged in the Lake County Jail on one count of manufacturing marijuana, more than 20 plants but less than 200.
Ambrose noted that charged bumped up the man's charge to a seven-year felony. He still faces the initial charge of possession with intent to deliver.
The man is expected to be formally arraigned Monday.
