What kind of carbon filter and fan is that?? Does it work good?? I have been looking at some cheaper fan/filter combos on amazon for like $140 and yours kinda looks similar i was just wondering..

I always just top off with RO so how do I set it just the same ppms as what I set the system to???

I believe you track how much it goes down over 24 hr's and set your auto top off somewhere around there. My guess is around 250-350ppm's to keep things stable.

i was also wondering this because the dude at the hydro shop that i go to claims that no matter what he always fills a 50gal gravity fed top off res with the same exact dose as his system. That goes against everything i have learned about topping off hydro reservoirs in the past. Always thought that plants in hydro always feed on what nutrient they need at that time of feeding. Now lets say your feeding a nitrogen rich solution and the plants are eating mostly nitrogen out of that mix at that time so then ithe auto top off at full strength adds more of the nitrogen rich nutes....now that your plant just ate a shit load of nitrogen they may not call for that much. Isnt that just throwing your ratios way off?
sometimes it makes me think that hes just rying to get me to mess up so i can waste more nutes and buy more. On the other hand he really doesnt seem like that type of person, hes gone out of his way to help me and also hes showed me pics of his crop and they were amazing.

Well BG i'm sort of in the same boat as you in that im trying it for the first time :) I have 50g top off res's that I nute up. Basically i've just added about 2ml/g more than what I put in my systems. For example 3rd wk of flower I was at approx 5ml/g A+B in my UC, so I added 7ml/g A+B to my reservoirs (350ml).

So far it seems like my pH and nute strength is fairly stable...it's dropping slowly, about 20-40ppm/day in the UC (with the top off nutes filling the UC). Whereas before I started nuting my top off they were eating around 80-100ppm/day in the UC. So anyways..I dont have the experience to tell you one way or another how to do it since im not sure, but you can take what I did fwiw. Good luck.

Very NICE BG!! I run my top off "hot" when I run co2. I find that sweet spot with my ec in my res matching my system. My goal is to always have my systems ec to drop a little by the end of the week, not needing a dosing, but making them hungry and ready for that weeks hotter stew. I also keep my ph in my top off low, 4.5-5.0 because they seem to raise the ph a little faster running your top off hot. That just keeps me from having to dose the uc with ph down too often. Keep up that great work!!

Hmmm...I always thought it would make more sense that if your system ec is set low, or at least the lower your system ec is set, then the higher your top off res ec should be set.

But then i read journals like desertsquirrel and the dude never even feeds more than .8ec in his system at peak flower so he feeds his system way lower than most people on here and he still tops off with plain R/O... Now wouldnt that just cause your system ec to drop dramatically from adding plain R/O as your top off to your allready weak (or very low) ec system solution?
