Vanilla kush cut was sourced from a local last summer; I'm useless at ID'ing it since this is the only example I've ever seen, so if you know more please inform me. She stinks wonderfully in veg, and grows like a bush naturally... the plants pictured have been topped once, a week after rooting. That is natural shag there... could eat up an entire 48" t5 per plant if I could spare the watts and room. Like 70's porn: bush everywhere!

Just a few shots of the veg section and one from while I was inserting the first plant in flower; I'll update with more when the camera is charged again. Cheers, ftw

All four bays filled; hard to see b/c of dimensions, but each vscrog has a nice bowl shape. Forgive white balance (or lack thereof) - I like to point and shoot. Quick and dirty. thanks for reading, Ftw

Thanks Phate - its an evolving space. Always changing something. But who isn't? :)

Screens hang from the ceiling for access to the lowers. I need a step stool to reach the farthest portions of the bays, but overall the space is great. Small, but efficient.

damn that is some nice canopy managment. Good luck I would like to see what you can pull. What do you usually pull per 600?

I grew the vk under my first 1000 watt. Didn't keep her cause I was a dumbass. Wish I could've dialed her in.

This pic is so old. Can't believe I found it.

Here's shots from a previous round in the same space: the strain was a Hawaiian hybrid with a bit more stretch than the VK, but you get the idea of what is to come. Yields on the Hawaiian are average, but the fields of larf under canopy make her a pain to trim. I imagine the VK will be similar in terms of overall yield, but that the lower portions of her canopy will be more evenly developed. At least that has been the result from tester rounds. She's been in quarantine, so like I said, I don't know a whole lot about her...just that she smells and tastes like vanilla cake (sweeter than any skunk I've had) and grows like a weed. Slow to drink, too: she is regularly the last plant in a room to want water, depute being above average in size. Convenient to say the least.

ron: your leaf structure looks very similar, tho your buds are way frostier. Nicely done for 'not dialed in' -- is that from dwc? Lovely :)

The screens are all vertical, and they provide anchor points for me to secure a wire that have I attached to each main shoot with a zip tie. Doing this allows me to create my own screen for each plant (an inefficient pain, but highly effective); the shoots are secured in an arena shape and continue to be trained out along the wire attached to the vscrog. Just like a hops plant is managed outside, but on a smaller scale. I will snag pics to illustrate the anchoring/training technique I'm describing when I get in there after work tonight. Basically, I get a more manageable shape in flower without having to veg under a screen.

Gracias, Mitch - sadly, that is the last full run of that Hawaiian geno that I will be having the pleasure of watching grow: I have to set her to pasture in order to move forward with my learning process. I will miss her wonderfully citrus fuel funk, to be sure. Thanks for reading man. Happy wednesday.....ftw

Sure thing. Small you say? Ha! My space is small! I am thoroughly impressed though! Training job is impressive. Last time I trained one like that it took me near 2 months. Hats off!

Later.

Day 14ish update

Here's an update - nothing too exciting yet, just wrapping up their stretch. Raised the lights 6" yesterday to hit outer sites and cover some of the stretch. Should start to pack it on in the next week, and all done stretching by day 24ish... between now and the its more zip ties and wire! Thanks for looking, ftw

Wow, there gonna start climbing the walls! You got a full room there. Can't wait for them to start putting on the weight! Gonna be quite the harvest! Wish your fingers luck! Ha.

Nice job!

Ahh, ok, you got wire threaded through there too. Like those bays.

Hola Phate, thanks for stopping through. I'll have to take some time and get a shot of a well trained branch to illustrate how I'm pulling the branches outward. If you zoom in on one of those shots above, you can kind of make out a few of them - look for the zip ties on the stems and a wire leading out toward an anchor point on the walls. Voila.

Doot - There is a row of 35w T5's under the canopy that runs for a few hours each day. Its probably a waste of watts, but I had some strip lights and wanted to give it a shot. Additionally, there is a 8xT5 (430w) in my work aisle that is over two Chemdog D's; the spillover light from the hps and the t5 mixes nicely. Previous uses of the 8xt5 alongside an hid/hps have proven surprisingly productive. The key is to slam the t5 a few inches above the tops, allowing light to spill in from the side from the hps. Plants under the t5 are on a cart that gets a spin almost every day, so they develop nicely. I'll include a few shots of the d's later as buds develop so you can see what cool t5's do in a flowering room. It's neat-o...

Hey ftwendy, I know how it is to have to cull something out of ur motherstock. In fact I've been called a strain "hoarder" because I'm notorious for getting way too many genetics for the amt. of room available for holding em much less test em out. I would've also settled on getting rid of hard to trim sativas, I love my kushes too much. Lol. Anyway can't wait to see how ur vert grow fills in the trellis. Keep it green my friend.

Training the branches: anchor points

Thanks aero - I'm not sure how many people can relate to the strange feeling of letting an old reliable go out to pasture. Strange.

Keep watching Dr.P - they're just starting to put on weight, and it only gets more exciting from here onward. The yellow cake smell is starting to fill the room, replacing the skunk funk they have while they veg. Lovely.

Here's a decent shot from this morning (day 16 or 17) that illustrates how I'm training these girls into an arena shape; a zip tie attached to the stem is anchored with a wire to a point on an adjacent wall/screen. The stem is then wrapped around the wire as it stretches throughout flowering... just like a hops plant is managed outside. Hope this helps! ftw
