Been reading and reading and I just wanna make sure I'm on track here. This is what I'm running (extreme newbie)
1. Hps 1000w 18/6
2. Temp is steady 80
3. Humity is 55-70% seems to be more after I water with distilled water.
4. 5×5×7
So, once the seeds popped in the paper towel I placed them right into the 5 gallon buckets with the soil mixture. Being on day 11 they are just getting their first 3 finger leaves. The question is are they just working on roots atm since they have so much space? That seems to be what happened in my outdoor garden with my tomatoes and cabbage plants. I will take all suggestions concerns etc. I really wanna learn everything so please don't hold back I will not take offense to anything. Thanks I have and continue to learn so much from this site.
Cheers

Imo u shouldn't have planted seeds right into 5 gal they are gonna stay wet for way too long. Plus huge waste of space and light.
You shouldn't be using an hps. T5s are best imo.
Wrong spectrum and way too bright.
They have to get a root zone established b4 growing above the soil so to answer your first question. ..yes.

Thank you G for your input. I can of figure that. I think I'm going to just wait it out. Transplanting into smaller pots may damage the roots (maybe very spread out by now. I did put a few into solo type cups that popped later and I think I will see a big difference. As for the light it is what I have atm and I really don't have the extra cash to get a mh atm. I have read that hps will work through veg but the growth rate is just a bit slower. Heck I don't even know what strain I'm growing my buddy gave me them and just said they were good they definitely already have the dank smell. Live and learn I guess
thanks
cheers

you don't have enough roots to damage yet. when you start off in too large of a bucket, the roots have a hard time establishing a good root zone/ball, the soil stays wet for way too long causing the potential for mold/bud rot. the HPS is the wrong spectrum for seedling and vegging, leave it for flowering. 6500k is ideal for seedlings.

home depot
55.00 for a 4' 4 bulb t8 plus 12.00 for daylight deluxe 6500k bulbs

i use these fixtures and love them.

I do have a 24'' cfl grow bulb that is 75 watt what do you think

100000x better than the 1000w hps.

you still need to move to a smaller pot.

I do 24hrs in veg but you may never be able to get any preflowers to sex them that way. Seems like its easier to sex plants with an 8hr dark cycle.

A litter nervous bout pics since were I live it's still not cool at all think bout 3 inches tall with its first three finger leaves
don't know how to scrub pictures
I put them back into flower pots you would get at the store about 6 inches deep a little water and a spritz of water on the leaves.

If they're 11 days in I wouldn't recommend transplanting, just my $.02
You will have to be very careful with watering as mentioned previously.

In the future start out in something much smaller.
1st Solo cups(plastic beer cups)
2nd 1 or 2 gallon pots
3rd final(typically)

IMO 5 gal buckets are NOT very good for growing in soil. You'd be better off with either real nursery pots or smart pots.
IF you are going to use the 5 gal buckets make sure there are plenty of drainage holes and put something under them
so air can flow under the bucket

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the input. This is going to be so much fun! :D

I do up-pot from solo cups to their final 4.7 gal (short/fat) pot. but my transplanted clones are juveniles (about 1.5' tall), not little clones.

Well after taking your advice about the light they all started to wilt and droop. So I did place into 4 inch pots and the roots have already started to grow out the bottom. So this makes me happy. But I think the soil I used was very high in nutes bc some of the baby leaves seem yellow and from my research looks like burn to me. Wish I knew how to scrub pictures. Needless to say they are back under the hps but are looking healthier than the past couple of days.

If you don*t want to transplant as many times ,put your seedlings in their final pot with a root collar, they will establish a good root system after growing down and out of the collar,as for the lights ,I put my seedlings in my veg room with 2 x 1000 hps lights and 4 x 600 hps lights and they love it,just two cents,Peace.
