50 Watts Per Square?

If the Rule is 50 watts per square with a HPS ,…How would you know if your plants are getting the 50 watts, or more or less…I’m just thinking

Divide area by total watts. So if you have 10 sqft (5’x2’) and 400 total watts (example) you have 40 Watts per foot average. Of course the closer you are to the light the more lumens the plant will get but it’s just an average figure.

there is a formula for that - can't remember it now - will get back to you . Need grow space size and power /kind of light

COB QB And STRIPS i think are closer to 40. 200 watts is as much as i would put in my 5 square foot and 550 to 600 max for a 4 x 4. I would go 450ish with a good spread but i find heat a pita to deal with when i pass 500
