I'm going off visuals because it's so easy to see the difference.
The current trouble with my moms was making me overthink everything because I have several strains that I do not want to lose. It's a totally separate issue which has been solved. I put too much information in a post and even confused myself. My bad.
I agree that the vermiculite is sludgy. I have had a few days and tested several different mixtures. I was thinking that the changing of 2:1 to 1:1 would provide more than enough extra aeration to allow for an addition of vermiculite to add to the CEC. I don't like the muddy/sludgy feel.
As to the other. I am wondering if FF has lost some quality.
From comparing several different small mixes I made with 2:1 with a 1:1 ratio I am seeing a lot better aeration and that the little bit of FFOF I am dropping is not really noticeable, and that maybe I should switch brands. It just seems that the FF is not as earthy and fresh as it used to be compared with the bag of Roots Organic I picked up to compare the FFOF with
I did about six small mixes with Roots Organic w/amendments, FFOF w/amendments (amendments meaning what I add in) and both mixtures w/amendments I did at different ratios, 2:1 and 1:1 with Sunshine Advanced.
The Roots Organic mixes look, feel, and smell better. I really think the FFOF is not the same as it used to be. One bag even had a yellow fungus growing on top, which I have only seen one other time and it turned out to be harmless. I talked with the Hydro store owner that I am friends with and she said that I seemed such a FFOF fan that she didn't want to pop my bubble. She said she was thinking of dropping FFOF except for special orders for some time.
As far as the frost, I think I need not worry about that too much. I never get complaints, I am my own worst critic and need to dial my brain down a little.
I came back to a mess and was overthinking everything.
