Hello. Here is a simple tip that might help some off you growers out there that use and a flood and drain bucket system.

My system is CAP and uses half inch tubing. I was always trying to figure out how to clean and manage the system the easiest way then one day it all came to me. All you do is simply install half inch bi-pass valves on every line coming out of the brain bucket.

Once you have done this you can simply lift the buckets on any one line, the water will drain back into the brainbucket, then turn the valve to off and the entire line is dry. If needed you can unattach the whole line with the buckets at the bi-pass valve from the brain bucket for cleaning or maintenance without making a mess.

I also attach valves to the brain buckets h2o intake and and the h2o line that pumps water out to the main reso, you can flip all the valves to off and, remove all the tubing from the bi-pass valves and pull out the whole brain bucket for cleaning without disturbing the buckets or making a mess.

This little tip has saved me so much time and headache. I now love my bucket system.

Also I use 2 gallon dirt bags(the brand is called dirt bag, its a type of smart pot) in my buckets not the hard black plastic buckets that come with the system. I just invert little 2 inch net cups (3 per)in the bottem of the fill buckets, then I place the plant in the dirt bag with hydroton on top of the net cups. The plants will not sit in the extra water this way. This also keeps the plant high enough in the bucket that the rockwool cube does not get wet that my cutting were started in.

Let me know if you have question. If you have a buckets system, trust me, adding bi-pass vavles will change everything. Just imagine some of the possibilities.....

Here are a couple of picture of the valves on my brain. You can see where Ive pulled a couple of lines from the brain....I will post a few more.

Very good idea! Thanks for sharing. I put all my buckets except for the brain on cut out 2x6 so I dont have that standing water in bottom of buckets.
