If you keep the soil to wet doing this procedure, the plant could very well get stem rot, your exactly right @caveman4.20 .
Do this with my seedlings, never looked to see if true, though. Makes since. Also experienced the stem rot. Live and learn.
Usually do it cuz they just get to long. Learn something new everyday
