At about 36 hours at 75 degrees my alfalfa/EJ Catalyst/molasses tea has a fermented smell of alcohol. Does this mean its past its usefulness and I should just start a new batch?

No, when fermenting things the alcohol smell is good. Usually meaning it is done. After all bubbling has stopped of course.

Have the bubbles stopped?

Ferments usually smell pretty bad. Molasses is one of the things recommended to kill the smell.

I definitely hope that you know we are speaking of ferments and not aerated teas. The difference being one takes a few hours to a few days to make (teas), and the other (ferments) couple of weeks to months.

Aerated conditions for the teas (pump), and anaerobic for the ferment.

Teas should never smell bad, ferments almost always do.
