figured I get at least one official documentation of the process for a “bagged press”. The parchment paper still has a decent amount on it which i tossed in the freezer to pull off the paper, and i took a few dabs from it happy with the outcome because I know I can optimize perimeter.
LSDxBanner from Capt. it smells just as good after the press!

I can’t see the difference because I was only pressing a small amount without the bag. I was reading a watching some videos about that. Apparently more than about a gram doesn’t work well without the bags. If I had more to play around with I would give it shot. But for now my experiments are still valuable smoke : )

My metric was a nugg smasher video on YouTube. He pressed 7 grams and got a little less than a gram back. Flower out of a store baughtpack.

Bags were 20 bucks. Daddy prime.

I got 90 micron bags - 30 bags for $25 Canadian.

I'm new to pressing and did 2 presses on some weed from last summer. The weed was a little dry so I put it in water first for a couple minutes.

The press I use is a Rosineer Grip and I picked up the tool kit that goes with it which includes a really nice scraper to get the rosin off the paper. From what I've read rosin is about 70 percent THC. It's a slick little set up with settings being saved between uses so you don't have to set temps and times every use. I set it for 180f top and bottom yesterday and used the 90 micron bags. I started with a 30 second preheat with almost no pressure then added pressure slowly. If you add too much pressure too fast it blows the bag apart. Total press time was 220 seconds.

I need to add a fold in the paper on the back of the press too so rosin can't squirt out the back next time.

The end result looks like a pile of **** but just a small little bit is seriously tasty. From what I see adding it to butter for edibles should be very nice.

Right on! that stuff looks great! nice set up! and thank you for the tips.

mind sharing your ins and outs? this is something im obsessed with as im also new to making rosin. the weight in to weight out pill is still stuck in the back of my throat! I’ve gone per recommended with the 120micron, i would like to eventually try some 90s. at this point, im all about quantity : )

what strain did you press?

I pressed some of the UBC Chemo from Lucky13.

The little kit I picked up includes a prepress that shapes a little square that fits in the bags nicely. Using 2 preformed in a single bag worked well with the little pucks being about a half inch thick. The little blue square in the picture below is the prepress with both top and bottom able to be removed which makes it easy to push the puck out.

There are little green magnets on the leg of the press in the picture for the last post. These keep the paper where you want it when you press. They were included as part of the Rosineer kit.

I pulled the stems out before pressing. I mentioned a little soak before pressing then use paper towel to dry the buds a bit. From what I've read humidity levels are important.

Nice kit brother, get you a little spray bottle for some iso to keep everything clean. Second handiest tool when pressing, besides the press

Think I would see an increase switching to with the 160s?

Hey while your here : ) “bottle tech” folding at the bottom of the bags? You into that sorta thing or what? Im going to give my bags and press a try with the bags running horizontal this next press.

was typing about that topic when you post. For small batch pressing I can see the benefits of tucking the bag corners and going vertical.

But moisture content is far more important imho than the orientation of the bag

this run i didnt have a blow out, i went way slower with the pressure and let the plates warm up the herb. Didnt apply enough pressure to the first press so i did a second and got more, still applying slow pressure.

so far the Rh is still in that fresh harvest window, if you will lol! but i have my Tupperware set up for rehydration once it reaches that point. (i dont know for sure about the current rh LOL!, im looking at some meters)

im with you 100% on the rh being a bigger factor over bag orientation in overall yield.

Stoner thought/question:

I pulled the two pieces of parchment from the earlier presses out of the freezer, after a few hours and that stuff was still extremely viscous. Didn’t do the “sticks to the dab tool and peals up” thing like most of the yields. Wondering if this has something to do with what like2grow was saying about 70% thc?

Also I’m wondering how much of the humidity is playing a part. Thinking it could still have a tad bit too moisture content? jj is that a thing? : )

Every plant is different. From the way they grow all the way to how they press. I love skywalker x okie, makes great oil and smokes with the best of them but it aint worth a F to press with.
Moisture in the freezer wouldn't be soft and besides, when I press it's 210@F for 3 minutes any moisture is evaporated or at least seperated from the oil. Just like flower I've found rosin needs to cure for a bit for optimal results

had a minute so I pressed a little of the varieties I have around currently. and I were discussing strains and specific traits and who’s good to press with
My process: I use a dabpress rig with remote pump and control unit. Both plates are heated and pressure gauges show where I’m at. The wax paper I use is prefilled cookie sheets, one cut and they fit perfectly. I run 160 micron bags that let me press at 5000 psi. I warm for 60 seconds, increase pressure over 3 minutes and let it go for 2 more minutes. So it’s a 6 minute press of 10 grams
Moisture is critical to get a decent return, so I start 24 hours prior to pressing by getting the moisture where I like.
Strains used
Apples and bananas x Okie
Plum crazy x Okie
White Runtz x okie
Lemon tree x okie
Candy rain x gojo

Thoughts: won’t be pressing much candy rain
Lemon tree looks interesting but it wasn’t cured flower
The most surprising was plum crazy, a lighter fluffy type flower and I didn’t expect her to press well

Plum crazy 18%
Candy rain 17%
Apples and bananas 16.5%
Lemon tree 16.5%
White Runtz 9%

Overall 14.4% return from 100 grams Moisture start

Dude this is awesome! I’m going to get a few 160 bags! And run for the six minutes! and a thermometer with rh.

that candy rain looks great! : )

well, so far looks like there could be a little something to the lighter fluffier buds? i was looking at the DSGxm86 this morning. i want to press a nug of that along with the fluffy Hash Plant x NL. Rock freaking hard vs more airy.

thank you for throwing this together jj!

The other day you mentioned on strain you were having trouble reclaiming. Here’s what I was talking about when I said that they are all a little different. It’s been an hour after I pressed and was putting the rosin away. One strain is still sticky AF while the other strain actually broke apart when I tried to trim some off, hard as glass and sticky AF, no 2 are the same
