I'm pretty inept when it comes to instructions. I have my exhaust triggered by humidity. So my exhaust comes on at 50% It's constantly starting and stopping to maintain humidity level. Is this hard on the fan? I mean how long does it take to raise humidity 1%. Maybe if it lowered it a little bit more it wouldn't run as often?

I usually keep the off speed at 2. So the exhaust will always run at 2 unless humidity rises above the auto setpoint. That way fresh air is always being drawn into the tent. To do this, go to the off mode and set desired off speed then flip back to auto mode.

No it won't hurt the fan to cycle on/off. They are built for that.

There is also a transition mode for increasing speed based on the differential:
 
I have mine set at 2 when in off mode also. High is on 7 to lower it. Perhaps what I want isn't possible or wouldn't matter. I was thinking it may be like my house furnace. Comes on at 70 and off a few degrees higher.

Buffer will do that for you.

The size of the tent matters. I've found that smaller tents are more challenging. The life stage of the plant(s) in the tent also matters. The bigger the plant, the more it contributes to the humidity in the tent. The season and the weather matter. Whether the tent is in a 'lung' room or not also matters.

I think of air exhaust rate in terms of how often the air in the tent needs to be exchanged with ambient room air. In the past, I've triggered it on temperature or humidity. I still do if the weather is unusually hot or humid. But most of the time, I cycle the exhaust. I set the 'off' to 0 and the 'on' based on the size of the tent and the size of the fan. The cycling is usually set to something like 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.

Couldn't be anymore correct. Figure out what works for any given day for you. With time you will know exactly how to adapt to seasons, growth stage, whether, and your preferences. For example, I live where it is humid, at the moment I have a tent in late flower. To maintain under 50% humidity I either have the windows open to let in the colder dry air or at night I have a dehumidifier running in the lung room and tent exhaust at 100%.
