Another Noob grow. Mag 357 LED in use.

IMO its bushy as hell because of the LST and Topping you've been doin plus its probably an indica dominant strain which also adds to the lateral growth. It looks good so you should get a decent harvest, good luck.

Day 30, 76`F, 62% RH, 12/12 Both Spectrums

Day 4 Flower.

Ambient 70`F, 27% RH. Had a hiccup with the 12/12 cycle. They’ve gotten the full dose of 12 hours of dark every night since the flip, but last night the timer missed the ‘off’ tab and I didn’t discover this until 2 hours after the light was supposed to shut off. I had to push back the ‘on’ tab, which means they’ll have only 10 hours of light today. Everything will be back to normal by tomorrow though. The first two days after flip the growth did appear to slow down, but today I am seeing definite signs of stretching. I will probably have to raise the lights tomorrow if stretching speeds up at all. Again, no signs of fungus gnats or other pests. Roots are visible through most of the AirPot holes, and the leaves are not showing any signs of stress. I did have to water today.

Im not an experienced grower....But I think they have grown nicely.
That LED seems to be workin well.

Looking very well vegged, nice and fresh, the will fill ur space and ur net for sure;)

Very nice am interested in the airpots do you know how large they go up to ? 20 gal? nice net!!!

Thanks! I think the net came together nicely, especially since I designed it in my head while staring at the plumbing parts at the hardware store.

I have seen 20 foot trees growing out of HUGE airpots, and the company that invented them is a tree company. Here's their site: Pretty sure you can order them from other vendors though.

They have many different sizes. I chose the pots I'm using now because of space constraints, and they work perfectly for me. They make 80 liter pots designed for potatoes, and I'm sure that would grow a tree size MMJ plant out of that if you wanted to.

Primary Flowers Already!!

The girls are currently 6 days since the flip, and primary flowers are already popping up all over the place. Is this faster than average? I thought there was usually a 2 week period of nothing but stretch. Another reason I'm surprised about the flowers is that yesterday I had to finish up the last bit of pruning required, and I figured they'd all be too stressed after that to want to flower. These pistils were definitely not out yesterday, so this all happened over the past 16 hours. :D

One more in all their LED nourished glory

Thats normal for the pre flowers to pop up after 6 days. Mine started showing pre flowers about 4 days after the flip and I also pruned it before and after the pistils popped up and it really didn't stunt growth, so IMO its normal.

Thanks for the reply, Lex. I was just surprised these popped up so fast when they weren't there yesterday. Should I expect stretch to continue then? I'm assuming stretch is independent of flowering, so both will happen together? Thanks for putting up with a stoked newbie

hey Medi, good shit man. i'm always happy to see growers pioneering with LEDs. i just give props for taking the plunge, despite all of the negativity behind it.

what do you think about getting the lights a little closer? i bet that h350 (with it's vapor cooling) could stand to be a good six inches lower. i've seen many an LED grow fall short during flowering due to their (notoriously) low penetration.

just my $0.02! everything looks solid. loving the air-pots, i own a few 12.5 liters.

I'm not sure how to measure penetration based on plant appearance, but only the bottom, most shaded leaves have shown me any signs of apoptosis. They weren't even yellowing yet when I pruned them, they just started to get a bit 'old' looking. The entirety of all the plants' leaves are a relatively uniform dark green color (new growth is lighter green of course). Before I started pruning, the plants were extremely dense with leaves, from bottom to top. That being said, the potential penetration issue is why I decided to go for the ScrOG method.

Do you have a way to subjectively measure penetration based on the plant's appearance? I could give you a better report if you have specific things I should be looking for.

Regarding the distance of the lights, I am currently debating with myself about the inverse square law of light distribution as it applies to grow lights. As I understand it, the inverse square law only truly applies to 'point-source' emissions (or an 'isotropic radiator' if you want to get really brainy) that are radiating equally in 3-dimensional space. Now consider the exact opposite of point source emission, the laser. A laser beam is not at all subject to the inverse square law, as you'd be measuring almost the exact same intensity from 30 feet as you would from 10 feet (as long as the light is passing through a vacuum, but light scatter is not what the inverse square measures anyway). While I'm not at all arguing that my grow light acts like a laser, it is still somewhere in between that point-source emission and the laser. The way the LEDs emit light isn't equally through 3 dimensions, but focused downward. The 357Mag also uses lenses to further focus that light into a 60 degree beam. I really do think that this approach helps the intensity distribution overcome the full effects of inverse square law.

What do you think? Am I completely out of bounds with my reasoning here?

No I dont think you are "out of bounds" with your reasoning it actually makes sense. I honestly dont know how the inverse square law would apply to your LED but maybe your right...I'll do some research and let you know what I find.

I opened a thread in the 'Advanced Techniques' sub-forum on this subject, so if you'd like to reply there, that would be fine too. Peace!!

Day 35, 77`F, 58% RH, 12/12 Both Spectrums

Day 9 Flower

Ambient 75`F, 25% RH. Not much going on except some moderate stretch. I definitely could have let this veg for a few more weeks, but that’s what I get for growing a strain I’m not familiar with. Pistils are beginning to cluster on the growing tops. I’ve been culling a few shoots here and there through the week and trying to select for the strongest during the stretch period. No pests have been noted. I added an under-canopy fan a few days ago, and also had to buy a fan speed regulator, as the nighttime humidity was going crazy high, but having the exhaust fan run on full blast was dropping the RH too low. Everything’s been perfect the last few nights, so it looks like I got the environment back under control. I had to water 2 days ago and I will have to water today too. Not sure if this increased water intake is because of the under-canopy fan or just higher metabolism due to flowering (or both).

While doing my anal retentive inspection of the garden, I noticed these two little cuties poking out of one of the AirPot's holes. Seems I have some decent microbe action in my SuperSoil :)

Since I had to switch to my macro lens for the shot above, I figured I'd get a pic of the pistils that are starting to crowd the tops. I had my LEDs on, just in case anyone's wondering about those sexy pink highlights. BTW, when the buds start packing on, should I avoid getting them wet when I water?

IMG 6939

I would most definately try not to get buds wet when you water, if they do get wet then shake them off the best you can. It's bad enough high RH could cause mold let alone wet buds....SHAKE EM!!!

Oh yeah and you said something about watering more than usual, as flowering goes on your gonna have to water a lil more and more so it's normal.

I already posted this to the Photography sub-forum, but I had to share it here. Enjoy . . .
