I am a first time grower and went with Herbies. I got 14 seeds for about $110 with their Black Friday sale and freebies.
I have three plants going right now, a Purple Juice auto, CBD lemon auto and a Girl Scout cookies fast photo.
All three germinated in less than 24 hours. I am closing in on the harvest time for the Purple Juice. It is 36 inches tall today and was germinated on December 23rd.
I had a few issues along the way but they weren't due to the seeds, just my learning curve kicking in. It is corrected now and everything is going well.
The CBD Lemon auto is about 3 weeks behind on flower right now but it's taking over in size by a huge amount.
For comparison, PJ (Purple Juice) looks like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, tall and straggly but has buds everywhere! The fan leaves are all very small so it gets light very well. I expect a good yield from it if I manage not to kill it.
CBD is 13 inches shorter and a huge wide dense bush. Two fan leaves likely equal the amount of surface area of area on Pj's leaves in total! It is actually crowding out my other two plants. They are in a 27 gallon tote. Running a home made DWC system that was really easy to make and maintain. I am moving the Girl Scout out to it's own 5 gallon bucket today since it is growing sideways in search of light.
I know that other seed companies maybe cheaper but the few interactions I have had with Herbies will keep me there unless I find a strain I want to purchase and they don't carry. Since I only plan a grew or two per year for medical use, the couple dollars more per seed isn't really a big deal. Especially since they have a 1 year germination guarantee, or free replacement.
I find it funny/head scratching how much money everyone spends on grow tents, lights fans, nutrients, electricity, etc. And then worry about a $2 difference for one seed. If you are a commercial grower I get that it adds up. However, for us home growers I can't see why's maybe $10 difference per year in seeds is such a talking point. Trust me, I am a HUGE penny puncher but great customer service goes a long ways to me.
I realize that things happen outside anyone's control but from what I have experienced they are great to deal with.
Happy growing!
