Hi has anyone tried larger plants in F&D? It seems most F&D grows are SOG and I'm trying to figure out exactly why. I'm a DWC grower so I'm used to them being larger and if the growth rates are the same then I see why not...

I use 5 gallon f&d buckets with a controller bucket and 3/4 in. hoses. I used to use dwc but these buckets grow almost as big and fast without all the pathogen slime worries. My electric bill is lower too due to removing the chiller. In DWC I got about 8 oz per and now about 7.5 so it's close to the same

I’ve tried flooding and draining with larger plants in Hydroton. It works pretty well, but it needs more attention to keep the water levels right. Most people stick to SOG because it’s easier to manage and quicker. Growth rates are similar to DWC, but it can get tricky with bigger plants. I also grow wildflowers, which are much simpler and beautiful. They don’t need as much care as hydroponic plants, so you can also try growing them. Check out wildflowers in articles like the one at www.mklibrary.com. You will get more peace of mind!

I have seen giants in ebb buckets. It's definitely doable. a little safer than rdwc and cheaper. Did you ever give it a go?
