AOLab: 3.11 Be the Change you Wish to See

This is my 3rd total grow around, but the first time Ill be sharing the experience and logging each detail. I'm fairly new to the Farm but Ive already been lucky enough to receive some good info and advice from a few ppl here on the Farm. Thanx to all who have taken the time to answer any questions that Ive posted. Special thanx to SnowBlind for sharing an enormous amount of info with me so far in my short under 50 post life.

*DISCLAIMER*
I Took pictures of my set up and my plants progression on my Iphone Camera but it automatically saves them as documents and this site can not upload the attachment file. If anyone knows how I can convert let me know. Until then Im going to have to go without the pics.

REASONING
My goal with this log is to write down anything and everything that i find to be important or problematic in the process of refining my personal techniques and ensuring the healthiest of plant growth with an abundant yield. My long term goal is to raise between 3-5 MOTHERships of different strains starting with this current XJ13 strain, then from there Id like learn how to cross and create my own breed. Id also like to start learning how to clone from my own stable to ensure I always maintain top, healthy genetics . Growing has quickly become a passion for me and Id like to expand beyond just growing the buds and trying the Meds. Id like to experiment with edibles, Hash and anything that can possibly be produced using any growth in my Lab.

My Style
During VEG I have lights on 24/7. This VEG cycle will last a total of 5 weeks followed by another 5 weeks or so of flowering. During VEG I feed my plants every other day or every 2 days depending on condition and need.

I adjust my PH level to 5.9 - 6.0 and I cycle Nutrients every other watering.

During VEG I feed at about 1 and 1/2 - 2 tsp of Grow Big depending on the size of the plant and roots.

I always top my plants 14 days before flowering begins. I do very MINIMAL trimming if any before the topping because I believe it allows the plant time to really grow out to its young bushy potential without needing to repair and refocus energy. I also found that if you allow the plant to develop more before trimming it leads to a larger healthier main root and stock.

At this moment all 10 plants are happy and healthy, with one plant being slightly larger then all others. Friday I will be turning the plants over to begin flower. The plants are currently 3-4 feet tall with about 6 heads poking up from each plant. I took the advice of SNOW and chopped all Lower growth underneath the canopy and I will trim one more time once the plants go into Flower.

For all who check out the log here at AOLab:
a big thanx for any future kind words or words of wisdom. Keep a look out for AOLab and 1UP Genetics in the future.

I was thinking the exact same thing about grabing a camera on ebay. Ill hopefully get to that next month and get some pics up soon so people can check it all out. Thanx for the info tho it makes sense it doesnt accept mobile pics.

If youve got any questions about abbreviations or anything else just ask and Ill try to elaborate . It helps me to sharpen and refine the process and understand it better.

Today was purely an observation day as well as a planning day for future edibles, future clone projects and some strain education, along with a bean tour of whats up and coming. Not to mention a trip to HS in order to sample some SOUR ALIEN Im getting ready for OGR's release of hopefully [PURPLE BUBBLEGUM] and [FIRE ALIEN KUSH] in May/June .Ill be popping those beans not my next grow around but hopefully the one after.

Tomorrow it will be watering w/ nutes and maybe a foliar spray for my plants.

Update:

So Today I spent about 7 hours total working in the Lab, transplanting my new perspective mothers and trimming some clones along with watering light adjustment and a bunch of other lovely shit. I am exhausted but I figure I should write this before I forget.

Today I attempted to take clones from my current XJ females that are about to be flipped over to flower in two days but the clones are looking limp and sad.I dont have a cloning machine or propagation dome. I bought rooting gel and rockwool cubes today tho.

When I took the cuttings I used A clean razor then I dipped them into the rooting gel and put them straight under the T5 Flo lights into the rockwool cubes that had been soaked in 5.5Ph adjusted water. At first they looked healthy but within 30 mins they were limp cant fingure out why.

I wonder why my cuttings are responding so badly towards the cloning process. Is it not possible without a cloning/rooting machine? What am I doing wrong?

I watered the plants and I also trimmed all that was left under the canopy along with taking the above mentioned cuttings for perspective clones.

Todays watering consisted of Grow Big and Epson Salt.

2 tsp Grow Big per 1 gallon of water
1 tsp of Epson Salt per 1 gallon of water
Ph adjusted to 6.0

The biggest girl in my tent, crossing my fingers for 6 + Ounces yeild.Even though you cant tell by the pic quality but she is starting to turn slightly purple on some leaves. Not sure if thats normal for XJ or not? Smells very pugnant already. Should start to see somemore stretching and some beautiful budding soon.

Tomorrow At 7pm the lights will be going off and FLOWER will offical begin. Strictly 7am - 7pm schedule from here on out. Plants will be feed agian on the 28th.

Nice start to the log so far! Those plants are looking great. Very healthy in those pictures.

I picked up the same Fire OG cut from HS as well as the Sour Alien!

From the look of that one bushy plant you might need supports for the XJ. That shit is going to get heavy with buds and stretch a lot in flower, its a moderate + in terms of the stretch!

Almost all clones can look wilted and saggy after the cutting is first done. Most, many if not all will spring back after a day or so and should look ok......

I cant wait for you to get a camera. You can get a great point and shoot for cheap these days! Then your log can really take off.

Thanx Alot Blue. Im staying busy these days with the ladies in the lab. My xbox is feeling lonely.

They say great minds think alike! When did you grab yours from HS and how many you end upwalking out with? If you went yesterday you may have just missed me.

You cant tell from my pic quality but all those plants have tomatoe cages to support them. I also have support sticks in reserve. Would you recommend using the sticks as well during flower with the cages?

When I checked in on them this morning maybe 3-5 clones had responded and were looking healthy. The others are still not responding and look limp.

Is a propagation dome more effiecient then without? All I have is the tray, the rooting gel, rockwool cubes and my T5.

Any advice on the clone rooting process would be great.

I will probably end up getting a camera next month. then it will be on my friend. Until then the zoom in on my iphone will have to do.

Hows everything looking in your Lab Snow?

Tonight at 7pm the lights went out for the first time. I am running the heater in my grow room at night so I can keep the temp as close to 70+ as possible. Im hoping I can maintain 75 degrees with the light on and 75 degrees with the lights off.

Lights kick on at 7 am tomorrow and i will be up to make sure everything is looking good and give a good look over my clones.

Tomorrow I may also rearrange my tops in my cages and soon I will start the Bonsai Method for my moms. My goal is to maintain my 3 moms height at 24'-36" and to take cuttings every 2-4weeks.I am strictly watering my moms with Ph adjust water.I wont begin feeding them for about 2weeks or a month.

My XJ in the tent will be watered monday using only Ph adjusted water. The following watering will be Big Bloom and Tiger bloom. Im looking forward to a nice healthy stretch then a repositioning of the cage followed by very vigerous bud growth.

Hey AO thanx for the comments on my log. I really like how things are going so far for you. How are those fox farm nutes holding up in the coco? Are you using any additives, if so what?

Your plants might get too big after a five week veg. They will be huge. Support the branches as needed, as they lean, and XJ needs it. I dont feel that you need more than one mother for each strain. If you are fighting PM you want the branches 100% vertical! Anything saggy or leaning over will be toast!

The domes are good for retaining moisture for young cuttings. I use a dome. Then take it off. You can play around and see what you like best. Gel, Jumpstart single T-5 is perfect. Maybe a heating pad too for colder days....and patience......cuttings take a while to root if they are full of N I hear........

Also spray your cutting with wilt(anti-wilt its called wilt spray though to me) spray if you wish!!!!! I saw this product on the See More Buds DVD!

the Fox Farms nutes have held up very well in CoCo. I havent used any supplements or additives this grow around. During VEG I used Grow Big every other watering and I added 1 tsp of Epson Salt to the last feeding before I switched Over to FLOWERING.

During FLowering Im going to be Using Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom agian every other watering. I was thinking about using a supplement(s) like Open Sesame/Beastie Bloomz/Cha Ching which are also from Fox farms products. I May end up trying BB or CC at the towards the end of flowering but more likely then not I will stick with Tiger Bloom, Big Bloom and epson salt.

I will probably run my lights at night during the summer. Right now temps during the day are very ideal in my tent and at night during lights out I run my lab heater to keep the temps around 70 degrees. My goal is 75 degrees during lights on and inbetween 70-76 degress during dark time.

Shit, yea they are already starting to stretch and its day 3 of Flower. I VEG'd for so long to test the overall yeild compared to a traditional 1-4 week VEG. I also wanted to test to see if overall resin production is boosted with a longer VEG. Ive made sure to trim down the underhangins to keep airflow open under the canopy around the soil to combat possible PM. And I just picked up a green light, pump sprayer, zip ties [for hanging my carcon Filter] Faucet converter and a free sample bag of HYDROlite a new grow medium amendment that improves aeration in hydro and soil medium. They look like little rock peebles. Im going to test them in one pot during my next transplant.

Im only planning on keeping 1 mother of each strain, then once I pick up beans down the road ill be getting a small breeding tent to house the Stud males that arise along with any females who might have good breeding characteristics.

how much jump start do you normally use when spraying?

That rack SNOW, where did you buy that from? That is EXACTLY what ive been looking for to house my mothers and clones in.

I had heard somewhere that Jump start was a kind of supplement for cuttings had that confused with the T5 your talking about.

I currently have a 3 ft 4 bulb T5 light panel but id like to get a rack like the one you have and buy another single T5 buld or 2 singles for the second rack once i Figure out where I can get one at.

Thanx for the heads up Shady I appreciate it. ive been on a mad hunt for a small sized rack for cheap and all ive been finding are large work bench racks or grow type tents for alot of green backs.

Im going to head over to Walmart tomorrow to see what I can dig up. Ive been following your Shady under currents thread.. keep up the good work Shady. I look forward to the end of your round 10 and the next 11th.

What do you have on deck for next grow?
