Long term storage in jars also is interesting. I have heard peeps say they stashed pot in a jar for a couple of years and when opened the buds are as fresh and good as the day it was harvested. I have never been able to keep any of mine around that long. But, with that said I do have two strains that have been in jars for a few months now. Lucinda and Pez. One thing I have noticed is that if left completely alone for a couple of months the jars get a sour smell when burped. No worries though, once I burp and change the air within the jar the next day everything is normal again. Wondering what the buds would smell/taste like after 2 years???...... Anybody??

Due to decreased yield because of mandatory water restrictions,
for the first time in decades I won't make it thru to next harvest.
I had to break-out a case of "crop failure insurance": vintage 2013;
some of 'em still smell pretty good in the lungs and air,
others leave an undesirous aftersmell in the air, but they work--
especially for arthritic old folks who need that CBN/CBE...

Thanks for the tip Spider. Unfortunately I can't put them outside. I live in a very conservative neighborhood with redneck neighbors. Plus, no safe place to keep them from someones view. I am thinking you are giving me a tip on larger trich's. I do however move all plants into total darkness 48 hrs before harvest. I have done this for quite some time now, but there is no noticeable difference to the naked eye. Thanks.

I'm actually not the biggest fan of long term in jars. Some strains will fare better than others obviously..I want to experiment with vac seal and freeze. have you ever tossed some larf in the freezer for future hash runs? It's uncanny how terpy fresh and potent the thawed larf I have taste tested was.

I am in coco with salts and have found that 7 days of flushing works well for me. I try and feed on the light side generally speaking so that helps. I cut off pk boosts and anything other than base nutes a few days ahead of time, push a crap load of water through my medium to wash it out, then water as normal and in about a week they are ready to come down.

I think many people overdo the flushing. I get as much residual out as possible and then just let the plant consume whatever nutrients it has stored or can further pull from the medium.

I dry over a roughly week long period. Chop, trim large fans, then hang. I move back and forth between higher and lower humidity levels. Ambient humidity is really low where I am so I just wait for the buds to feel dry, then back into a sealed area with higher humidity. I believe it is helping pull moisture out of the stems. Then into a jar for a week to hang out and then I see where it's at. Leafier buds need a bit longer.

Yup, I put of weed in mason jars that kept for two years. It was still good bud that was a perfectly smokable quality. The bud lost some of the powerful smell when a jar was ope, but I never had anybody suggest the bud wasn't fresh and good.

Remember when storing bud for long term you still want to put in dark room.. Light degrades thc over time plus you will notice the bud will amber quicker if exposed to light for periods of time :)

Either that or buy smoked glass jars.. It will pay off in the long run if you ever need to store bud.. Use a boveda 62% pack for long term storage if you are worried about humidity fluctuations in your storage container...

I have been laughing at some of my smoking friends. They ruin their stash. Over the years I have seen my friends leave their stash sitting out in a partially closed baggie letting their stash turn to dust. Have heard them say repeatedly.....Wow, when I got this it was so aromatic and was like fire when smoked. Now, after a couple of weeks it smells and tastes like straw!!! DUH!!

I have told some over and over....when you get it home, put it in a jar and store in a cool, dark place. So it will stay as fresh as the day you got it. Some have learned....some never will. Drives me crazy!!!

Had one of our old time members (caveman 4.20) over for a smoke and a game of 9 ball yesterday. He had some very interesting ideas on long term curing in a jar and on a stem. I know he doesn't post on here much any more but I sure wish he would share his ideas on here with us.
Of all the smoking buddies I have he is the true Connoisseur of aged buds. I have never seen anybody as knowledgeable and peculiar about his smoke.

Maybe if we all try he will chime in on this thread and offer his opinions.......please

They are like check out this dank.. LOL I look and pure amber because it has degraded and been in not preferred conditions.. I am like nah bro you can smoke that and go to sleep.. LOL

I don't do well with Indica's or Amber Trich's.. My Ass hits the bed.. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Long Term Storage-- I do as previously discussed cool, dark place.. Then After I feel they are ready for storage after the cure then I enclose them with Boveda 62%.. I have not noticed any negative effects.. Plus it keeps my buds nice and sticky as long as the product was not over-dried etc.. :)

Just want to make sure the nasty chlorophyll breaks down out of the buds and ensure you are not nitrogen heavy at end of flower.. :)

Hope that helps some.

I have had bud in mason jars two years. I stored it in mason jars that were stored in cardboard boxes with lids. The boxes were stored in a closet kept closed in a bedroom kept at normal room temperatures.
Stored for two years the bud was still of a good quality. Opening a jar no longer overpowered an entire room like it did when first cured, but tasted, rolled and smoked just fine.

keeping buds on the branch is the best for keeping quality.
I use a big plastic tub, that you can fit whole branches into.
I just take them off the drying line and put them into my tub, untrimmed. An even better way would be to hang the plant whole, then take the branches off after 3 weeks.
you can come back between 1-5 months later and everything is perfect when you take it out, quick trim up and done. (no burping needed)

(it will work for longer than 5 months, I just ran out of stock)

The more soul the flower has, the harder it is to ruin the medicine during the cure!

Ok.....apparently Caveman isn't gonna chime in.......Sorry to see, who ever attacked him on here is an ass. We have lost another respected member.

Anyway, he mentioned drying to a point that there was still moisture in the bud but not enough to cause mold or mildew problems in the long term. That sure seems like a pretty fricken fine line to me. To seal a jar and not touch it for months or even a couple of years and not re hydrate itself or not turn into dust.....hmmm.....

He mentioned this as well, as a matter of fact he said it was the best way. Fuck it...I'm gonna smoke it.....lol

When he was over at my house a couple of days ago he mentioned some turmoil and someone attacked him. This guy is nothing more than a big teddy bear...and wouldn't hurt a flea. Wondering, did he get banned or just run off???
